adamblast: the lord of the rings disco is a 12" single by the Aragorn Ballroom Orcestra and is based on the old animated Lord of the Rings movie soundtrack. Its amazing and i really need to make it into an mp3 to share with people.

redinger: the lembas bread method i used is really cheap. the texas toast was like a buck fifty for a loaf and the greens were supper cheap. I was hoping to find a cracker or cookie the same size as a piece of toast, but couldnt.

PJ and the writers joke about 400 times on their commentaries for TT & ROTK that they are going to include this scene or that in their "25th anniversary super-mega edition". They also allude to numerous scenes that were filmed but not included in any released cut. They also mentioned in i think the FOTR commentary that as each actor was bid farewell, they edited together a 5 minute or so reel of bloopers for each one. I was expecting to see that on ROTK but I guess its not on there. (maybe they want to keep it personal and never intend on releasing it).

PJ also jokes at the beginning of the TT commentary that some fan should re-edit the entire trilogy into a chronological format (which is kind of how the running joke of the 25th anniv. edition first pops up), apparantly a reference to the fan re-edit of SW: Phantom Menace and the Coppola Godfather trilogy re-edit.

I was thinking after watching peter talk about ROTK editing process (that he stayed with cutting one storyline at a time for weeks), that it'd be fun to re-assemble the entire trilogy into the format followed by Tolkein in the books (i.e. Two Towers into Book 3 and Book 4, following Aragorn & Co. for the first few chapters, then backing up and covering Pip and Merry, then reuniting all of them at Saruman's pad; then switching to Frodo & Sam in book 4, etc etc). I doubt any of us would enjoy that cut of the movie nearly as much as PJ's cut, but it'd be interesting in an academic way to compare how the book's structure would not be as successful in the language of cinema that PJ's is.

another comment: In a general sense, I feel the EE are very appropriate and reflects Tolkein's own literary strategy of withholding certain 'scenes' in the book from his main text and including them in later appendices at the end of the last book. You still get the various stories of Arwen/Aragorn, and what happens to everyone after the end of the 3rd age, but they are separated into the appendices, so a reader has to choose to pursue the story further, or may skip it as he/she wishes, without detriment to the main story.

I really loved the documentaries... the whole Viggo Mortensen-Billy Boyd kiss scene made me laugh until I had tears in my eyes: "Dude... you opened your mouth, too!" "I didn't, but he did!"

Next, I'm looking forward to the commentaries.

I thought Liv Tyler fit (and performed) the role of Arwen perfectly well, and that she has a graceful loveliness that none of the alternatives mentioned really could have nailed down. As previously mentioned, the role is not one that requires amazing acting talent - it's more about poise and presence. Liv is especially good in FOTR, I think - pure Arwen. Great casting choice by PJ and Co.!

If you're looking for the worst actor in the trilogy, how about Orlando "the only movement on my face is the occasional narrowing of eyebrows before I do a ridiculous super-stunt" Bloom?

Question - Gandalf (and Theoden) mentions it takes three days to travel to Minas Tirth. But later Faramir tells him he saw Frodo and Sam "not two days ago", this after Gandalf traveled from Rohan to Minas Tirth. What gives here?

Faramir saw Frodo near Mordor where they were harassing the eastern men traveling to join Sauron. This was close to Osgiliath,the ruined city that is within sight of Minas Tirith. Rohan is to the west of Minas Tirith, Faramir, Frodo and Sam were to the south east near Mordor.

But he's so DREAMY...

and he doesn't have "horse lips"...

So the events with Faramir/Frodo/Sam in Osgiliath (in TTT) were happening as Gandalf and Pippin were en route to Minas Tirth? That would make sense, the order in the films just threw me...

So what of this talk of the Dolby track sounding better than the DTS track? I just watched the film in DTS and it sounded outstanding. I would try comparing right now, but it's 4:45 in the morning. What does everyone else have to say about this?

Center for DTS is too low.

Also to my ears the DD sounded a bit more full, the DTS sounded great as well, but has matrixrok said, the center channel is a bit low.

Just finished watching the EE, fucking awesome. Wish there was more blood and guts but still the fights were exciting.

Sounds like there is still heaps of material left for various anniversary editions in the future

Boy has this trilogy been a money spinner for New Line or what. They deserve it, they have always been one of my fav movie studios and in the early days of dvd, they were amongst the first to bring out cheap full loaded special editions.
