Just so you guys know (which you probably already do) is if you are planning on buying Mallrats X, then get rid of your original copy on Ebay where it goes for between $20-30 bucks because it's out of print. Sorry if this is a repost, but I just thought this was important info.

yeah, i just got rid of mine on sunday for $17. not the best, but not too bad.

The current edition is more than enough. Only including the edited-for-TV version would have justified a double-dip. I'll wait for Mallrats XX.

Good call. I'll be doing this real soon.

Agreed - I don't watch it enough to warrant another purchase.

Sold my old one for around $20 minus booklet so I can get the new one and have a booklet for it. :)

The dvd will be ONE DOUBLE-SIDED DISC. Thanks, Universal.

Posted by KEVIN SMITH on July 11th:

Here's the new scoop: it IS a single disc. DVD Answers was correct. BUT, it's a TWO-SIDED DVD

Here's how the ONE DISC/TWO SIDED DVD lays out, thus far. Naturally, this is subject to change.

I'll mark what's new (stuff made for this edition) and what's old (from the previous DVD release).

SIDE 1

THEATRICAL CUT (OLD)
· ORIGINAL ON SET CAST INTERVIEWS (NEW)
· A BRIEF Q&A WITH KEVIN SMITH (NEW)
· THE ERECTION OF AN EPIC - THE MAKING OF MALLRATS (NEW)
· BLOOPERS (NEW)
· VIEW ASKEW'S LOOK BACK AT MALLRATS (OLD)
· FEATURE COMMENTARY (OLD)
· THEATRICAL TRAILER (OLD)
· THE GOOPS "BUILD ME UP BUTTERCUP" (OLD)

SIDE TWO 2
· KEVIN AND SCOTT'S INTRODUCTION (NEW)
· MALLRATS RE-CUT (NEW)
· MALLRATS CAST REUNION Q&A SESSION (NEW)

There are also three new Easter Eggs buried in that disc as well. Sadly, due to space constraints, we had to lose the optional angle on the old commentary track from the previous "Rats" DVD, and there's no new commentary track either (again, we ran out of space). Regardless, this new, 10th anniversary special edition is PACKED!

I think the audience would agree with me there?

When asked what happened to the deleted scenes, Kevin playfully remarked "The deleted scenes are back in the movie, dumbass. That's what the recut of the flick on Disc 2 is all about."

When asked why there wasn't a new commentary, Kevin replied
"We never recorded a new commentary track. Mos (Scott Mosier, producer/editor) and I just felt like everything there was to say was said in the old commentary track, the new doc, the Q&A, and the new intro to the new cut."

So, it looks like we're missing a few things from the original DVD, like the multi-angle viewing option (hey kids! watch Kev & co... talk into mics...) and the introductions to the deleted scenes (God bless Vincent Pereira).

Those who wish to ask questions to Kevin directly or simply wish to keep up with the DVD news can visit the thread at View Askew:

kudos to univeral for fucking up the dvd!

on htf, a "Vincent P." mentioned that the new footage is morely raunchier takes and that the original opening was probably not goign to be on the dvd.

Skoobooz 07-12-05 02:13 PM

It is true that a new commentary couldn't improve on the current one, in my opinion. But after all the speculation about what might be included on this disc, I am disappointed in the lack of the TV cut and the double-sided disc. Still, it sounds like a decent enough upgrade...just not the all-inclusive end all-be all edition that I had hoped for.

ViewAskewbian 07-12-05 03:04 PM

WARNING:
Just as suspected DOUBLE SIDED DVD.
Universal has a history of errored discs for the double sided release.
Be very cautious with this one, folks.

The words UNIVERSAL and DOUBLED SIDED is enough to make THIS Viewaskewbian pass on this release. My old Mallrats is fine and dandy.

Zodo 07-12-05 05:13 PM

Sold my old Mallrats for $24, so I'll be making money double dipping on this one...

yellowbedwetter 07-12-05 05:23 PM

i'll still buy it but damn, double sided disc? I wish the companies would stop being so cheap.

Rypro 525 07-12-05 05:47 PM

to be honest, while the tv cut was funny as hell for all the edits, i would not have wanted that as an option. maybe as a supliment section (like on the scarface dvd)

Ianscloset 07-12-05 06:47 PM

Mallrats was my 1st dose of Kevin Smith, and now I think he's a god. I own the Original release and am perfectly happy with it, so the ONLY way I'd double dip is if it is a 2-3 disc set, done in the same vein as Clerks: X.

Leechboy 07-12-05 07:09 PM

Hopefully the Canadian edition will be a 2 disc set. Just like Orgazmo and Casino. I hate double sided discs.

That's correct, only Orgazmo & Ray are 2 disc sets in Canada.

coladar 07-12-05 08:07 PM

Wait a minute, what the fuck? The original opening isn't going to be on this DVD? Mallrats is easily in my top 3 favorite movies of all time list, but fuck this release then. Every single time I watch the film I start by watching the original opening. The fact that it could possibly not be on this release... That's just crazy.

The theatrical release, even cutting the opening out, still has a lot of scenes/jokes that rely on what it sets up... I cannot fathom a re-release like this not including it. The only reason I was looking forward to this DVD was to finally have it in anamorphic 16:9. I'd enjoy watching some of the new bits once, but this new release isn't worth a dime of my money if Universal is too cheap to include the original opening. Fucking pathetic.

island007 07-12-05 08:14 PM

This SUCKS!

I can not believe that they are making this a dual sided dvd. I have had many problems with my new Casino dvd. Thanks Universal!

kevin75 07-12-05 09:51 PM

damn. i hate the idea of a flipper.

GuessWho 07-12-05 09:59 PM

damn. i hate the idea of people misusing the word "flipper"
