I just tried to check my old dolby digital Apollo 13 out, so I could sell it and it now only reads 2 of 4 during the loading/reading cycle. Now it won't bring nothing up. So I went out and bought the new one.

I will probably pick this up also. I love movies with DTS but I am wondering how much better the Apollo 13 DTS is over the DD? I have heard some movies where the DD rivals the DTS.

Not convinced I need to upgrade from the original SE release. The DTS track isn't on the theatrical edition?

The DTS track is only on the IMAX version of the film

I already have the original CE and DTS DVDs. Although the new DVD has improved video, I stil prefer the sonic of the DTS disc

I'll probably wait til the new DVD goes into the $10 bin or somehing

I think he knows that, and is wondering whether he'll be able to do without the DTS if the DD is good enough.

The only sticker I had a problem with was the UPC, which wouldn't come off in one piece. The "made in mexico" sticker came off without removing the artwork, but the first time I tried, just the top layer came off so it was like removing a sticker on top of a sticker.

Oh, another thing: the IMAX version is 1.78:1, not 1.66:1 as the box and reviews indicate. The image completely fills the anamorphic frame.

Anyone with the tech skills and both the new and old versions what to try this?

Rip the discs and take the DTS track from the old version and insert into the new disc's move with replacing the DD stream with DTS. If the movies have the exact same length this might work. I'd try, but I only have one of the discs needed. =(

GooGone is another good way to get the labels off. You can let it soak through the stickers in most cases and then just lift 'em off, unless the label is plastic or has a plastic layer inside. The security labels might not work with this technique.

I can't believe this "new" version transfer is very similar to the original transfer! A waste of money for me. Guys, don't upgrade for the video. It still has that early DVD "look" to it.

Now I'm not sure if I should triple dip. Reviews so far all say that the video has be remastered and is much improved over the old disc.

I'm in the same boat. I have the non-DTS version, but won't upgrade unless the video is also improved, especially since it is unlikely I'd watch the IMAX cut in it's entirety anyway, and disc 1 appears identical. But I would pick it up for the combination of better video on disc 1 and the IMAX version (disc 2) combined.

Can anyone definitively comment ont the disc 1 transfer?

I picked this up last night. Frankly I do not see the point of the 'Imax cut' since it is a cut and cropped version of the film=pointless.

Other than that,it is nice to own the film on dvd finally and for a pretty good price.

Oh and I never bother with taking off stickers on slipcovers. Why bother with the hell of going through that? It takes forever and most of the time leads to destroying the otherwise nice looking slipcase. Since the keepcases usually have the exact same artwork. It further makes it a nonissue with myself. I would prefer they put those stickers on the outer plastic, but since they don't. I won't bother attempting to remove them myself.

I got Apollo 13 as well. Just gave the slipcover some goo gone. Now it's not covered up with stickers. Why can't these fuckin' studios just shrinkwrap over the slipcase? If they did that, then I wouldn't care if they placed 50 stickers on the cover.

I agree with a reviewer on another site, who commented that it would have been preferable to skip the IMAX cut, move all the extra features to the second disc, and include both Dolby Digital and DTS tracks on the theatrical cut.

Same here. I leave everything that comes attached to the slipcase, including the price tag and UPC sticker, if present. Really comes down to an issue of leaving the slipcase in its "default" state. Not into modifying them. Besides, don't want to take a chance that peeling off a sticker is going to damage the print. So when I'm selecting that kind of DVD for purchase, I check to make sure all stickers are in mint condition.

I bought this on release day and disc one has got cloudy swirls between the plastic... played fine but I was paranoid that eventually it would not play. Well I just returned my copy to Best Buy and the replacement was cloudy also. My question is any of the discs you guys picked up cloudy also? Should I not be worried?

i have many dvds with this "cloudy" swirl in the disc. never had a bad disc on account of it. probably an end result of the plastic injection process?
