New Rambo Ultimate Edition question
I was just wondering how the new Rambo movies are in their Ultimate form. How are the transfers, audio, extras, etc. Also what is the best price for both the first movie alone and the set in B&M stores and online? Thanks

I too was wondering where the reviews/comparisons are for these.
It seems like the info about recent Lion's Gate re-releases (this, Martin, etc.) is pretty hard to come by...

I'm looking for news about this new set as well. Especially if the DVD's for Pts. 2 & 3 include any new extra footage or improved transfers from the last set. Hopefully someone will post a review soon.

The only exception is Boomtown, which I bought right away because I really couldn't wait another day.

Rule #1 of DVD purchasing : Never, never, never ever purchase an Artisan DVD when it's released, because they all drop like a stone in price very rapidly. Look at Standing in the Shadows of Motown, Step Into Liquid, Total Recall SE, Young Guns SE, Terminator 2 Extreme Edition, Dune SE and the list goes on and on. All dirt cheap. I've made my mistakes and always avoid Artisan discs until the prices drop.

From: Right now, my location is DVDTalk, but then again, you should already know that, shouldn't you?
Yeah, but isn't Artisan now Lions Gate? Those rules may now be out the window--after all, Artisan was always great at including trailers, but Lions Gate hasn't been prone to include them on any of their recent Artisan title upgrades (STIR OF ECHOES: SE, UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: SE, etc.), so I'm not 100% confident of a price drop in the near future...

thats always my plan. it's not that I'm bad with $....it's just that I have no time to be hunting down and waiting for that best deal thing. my time is worth more than saving a few bucks. my # 1 rule has always been...just get the damn dvd asap.

I got the set. The suicide ending is actually a lot better than I expected. It also has an extra scene with the asian chick from Big Trouble Little China topless. That is always a plus. It also has an outtake of the suicide ending that is pretty funny.

I mean it isn't Academy Award Winning material but you can tell serious thought was put into having it be the real ending. It is just too much of a downer and I am sure the test audiences did not like it. Also, the Survival mode extras are better than I was expecting. I thought it would be a gimmick but it has some useful information. The set was only $30 at Frys and I am sure it is still $27 at DDD. Well worth it in my opinion.

I don't think so. I remember some docs (I only owned Part II of the SE's) and on Part I all it has is the survival mode info and the deleted scenes. Nothing else. I will check Part II in a second.

From reading the box specs online it looks like they dropped the DTS audio, the documentaries, and the writer commentary and replaced them with Stallone commentary, alternate endings, some deleted scenes, and the survival mode, whatever that is.

I still think it was worth the upgrade. sometimes....when you've become attached to a film or film series at a younger age...it sticks with you. they may not be the greatest flicks.....but I have managed to keep my teeth sunk into it. therefore...the set was worth it. it resparks my love for the series and provides me with another set of features. worth it to some....worthless to others.
man this house smells good. gotta check the turkey and ham....woooo hoooo!!!
