The Seinfeld DVD Thread

Release day is finally here, so post thoughts and what not right here. I've got class at noon, but am thinking about finishing a few things and heading over to BB before that just so I can secure possession of the gift set. This is one of the biggest releases of 2004 for me. Can't believe it's finally here.

Any reviews or links to reviews? I've been looking but don't see anything besides the one at dvdfile.com, I want to see pix of the packaging and everything.

My Best Buy only got 2 of the gift set. Yes 2. I was lucky to grab the first one.

Got the gift-set yesterday and have watched the "Kramer" document so far. Brilliant stuff! Can't wait to watch more. The picture quality isn't really that sharp nor mosquito noise free, but's it's quite ok with me - as it was finally released..

I've only seen one review and that was in the paper last night. Says the set's really good, but the commentaries are a bit thin with lots of silence. Oh well, I'm in it for the episodes. Anything else is just extra. But man, I better get moving to BB if they're stocking so few of the gift set.

I ordered all seasons, but not the gift set for a total of $65.60 at BB.com. The gift set was still $79.99 online, which is the same price as in the store. Odd that you get the price break when purchased separately. I did not think the napkin holder and dispensers were worth $20.

Are any of the really stand-out episodes on either of these sets? I enjoyed Seinfeld, but like most people I probably didn't start watching it from the beginning. IIRC, Seinfeld kinda floundered at first until hitting its stride and becoming a sensation, I just can't remember how long that took.

Correction sir. It never floundered one bit. It was just different enough not to catch on immediately. You have probably seen most of them in syndication w/o even realizing it. That is how consistent it was at the beginning, well, after the pilot.

IMO many:

The Pony Remark
The Apartment
The Chinese Restaurant
The Busboy
The Library
The Pez Dispenser
The Boyfriend (1 and 2)
The Parking Space

to name some of the ones I call "classics".

I just found this show to be ON from the first show. Of course it didn't have the pace as later shows (Jerry comments on this in the commentary track for The Stake-out) but it will still very original and funny.

Come on, some of the most classic episodes are from the first three seasons! It was quality TV from the start as far as I'm concerned. It's sorta like Arrested Development, the quality of the programs wasn't floundering, only the ratings, etc... That's what took a while to get really started.

I can't wait to watch The Pony Remark.

This was a quality show from the get go! Anyone who missed the first few seasons missed out. It's been consistent since the 2nd episode.

only 2?

The Best Buy in Chelsea Manhattan NYC had tons of them. Also, don't forget to price match CompUSA's $69.99 price if you're buying it in-store.

Well, they don't have it in CH. I was afraid of this since it is a Castlerock Production. I don't know why this makes a difference, but Mad About You is a Nuance Produciton and they are not in CH. Looks like all Sony dvd's would be in there, but I guess not.

I may go to Best Buy and get S 1/2 (and the bonus disk) and ask for S3 for Christmas.

One question for those who have it -

Are the first few episodes still showing title credits as "The Seinfeld Chronicles" or have they been "corrected" to just say "Seinfeld"?

Picked up the gift set at Wal-Mart at midnight last night. With my CompUSA ad which they price matched, the entire gift set was only $69.99. This morning I went to Best Buy (which had dozens of the gift sets by the way) and BOUGHT in-store the Bonus Disc for $3.99. It's packaged in a CD case, much nicer than most bonus discs that come in a paper sleeve. So I got it 10 hours early and still saved $5 over just buying it from BB in the first place.

I thought the picture quality was outstanding, the text commentaries very informative, the blooper reels funny and generous in length (13:30 for Volume 1, 15:15 for Volume 2), the documentary outstanding, the Inside Looks great. This is a top-notch set, very well done and well worth the wait. They have outdone themselves with this, the best TV Show on DVD thus far. This is how it should be done.

Costco and BJs wholesale clubs seems to be getting 10-20 copies of the Gift Set. $74.99 at each store. My Costco was sold out by 1pm this afternoon. Tis the season.

I thought the salt and pepper shakers, as well as the playing cards and script, were pretty cool. No big deal, but cool.

Its not a lie if you believe it.

I'm in heaven. I saw a packed Best Buy parking lot and the paranoid part of me said, "They're all in there taking my Seinfeld gift set!" But thankfully, there were plenty of sets available, so I grabbed one without a second though (heavy bugger, too), along with the free DVD and magazine.

Just got home (didn't go to my second class) and cracked this bad boy open. Awesome stuff. The set's worth it just for the great packaging and mini-script of The Big Salad. Awesome stuff; I'm too hyper to even type, that's how big of a deal this set is to me.

I need to calm the hell down; I'll be over there watching Season 1 if you need me.

We had 52 gift sets on hand at my BB.

I didn't get the set, I got the seasons individually. I'll start watching in a bit.

What would you do?

I went to Blockbuster to use some of my $500+ $8 dvd trade-in deal store credit on the Seinfeld gift set. Price: $89.99...OUCH!!!! I asked how much the sets were separately....$39.99. So, I figured what the hell, I'll get season 1&2 and pick up season 3 at some later date. Well, I handed over one of my gift cards and off came $39.99 + tax. As I'm walking out the door I look in my bag and see THE GIFT SET!!!! I double checked my receipt and sure enough it was for the $39.99 season 1&2. I continued to walk out the door with an evil grin but now I'm feeling a bit bad for the employee that may get docked pay or worse, lose their job. I may just return it. What would you do?
