Just watched Season 2 of "In Living Color", and it seems to be edited...

1) During the credits of at least 1/2 of the episodes, there is a cut right before the music credits would have shown up. I assume that either the original music (not the theme song, but the DJ'd music during the dance numbers) was replaced or the credits for it was removed. You can see the cut in the credits because they just jump all of a sudden, and then the audio is totally out of synch with the video after that point.

2) I noticed that several episodes have the same music during several dance scenes, perhaps it was added in to replace the original music, which was ommitted due to licensing...?

3) Several episodes do not have the normal amount of dance interludes before/after scenes, they just hard cut. Perhaps dance numbers were cut due to music licensing...?

Anyone? More info? If they cut out the original music or replaced it, that obviously sucks.

Frankly, I wouldn't have minded one bit if they cut out ALL the dance numbers.

True, I won't argue against that point... The music, however, was an important part of the show, and certainly serves as a sort of time capsule of the era. If they just removed music for the DVD, that seems very lame.

I've noticed this on several SNL DVDs, where they replaced the original music in sketches with lame remakes and whatnot. For example the "Schmitt's Gay" commercial, where the Van Halen song is replaced by some watered down imitation on the DVD version. I think it's inexcusable, just irks me...

Well HK, I would agree with you to some degree. If we are talking Miami Vice or Nip Tuck, where the music drives alot of the story, then 100%, but I don't agree that it's necessary for a sketch comedy show like ILC or SNL. If it keeps the seasons coming and the prices low, I think it's a good tradeoff.

I bought the first season of In Living Color when it came out, and I dunno, I'm content with just that I think. It was good nostalgia but this doesn't seem to be a series that I'm going to want to continually dump money into unfortunately.

I felt the same way. It lost alot of luster. It definitely does not have a timeless quality.

Honestly, I have to agree, Season 1 was a bit of a letdown compared to my memories of it, and Season 2 hardly made me chuckle. Nonetheless, seems like some type of disclaimer is in order here if they've edited the original shows for DVD.

Music rights clearance is probably the biggest thing holding a lot of TV shows from the DVD market. I think they have been working on The Wonder Years for the longest time because they want to be able to clear all of the music they originally used in the show. It's a shame when they have to use crappy generic music to fill the holes, but when the budget doesn't allow for keeping the original music, this is what we end up with.
