I picked this up last night. It didn't look too bad from what I saw. Also it has improved subtitles, and closed captions!
The only complaint I have for the dvd is the lack of trailers for the film itself! You only get many trailers for other Lions Gate Japanese horror,a few of their dvd releases and Waiting!
Now I am debating on whether to show it to a friend of mine who has terrible luck with women. And thinks excessively calling them hoping they answer will get them to notice and go out with him
But he has a very short attention span and will probably hate it. Since it won't be gory enough, and takes awhile for the disturbing stuff to reveal itself.

completely forgot this was out. I think I am going to wait on some reviews before deciding whether or not to buy it. I already have the Ventura/Chimaira R1 disc.

I would love some more feedback on how this release compares to the prior version. I waited too late on the earlier version and when the price went thru the roof I couldn't justify the price.
Not that it matters but I pre-ordered it from CH and hopefully it will be here soon.

The transfer isn't too great, but I can't compare it to the old version.
Anyway, pretty decent film. Kinda overrated though. It's all a build up to the last few minutes, which aren't that satisfying anyhow. Miike surely can come up with some bizarre shit.

With that in mind, the opening sequences(on the ocean, dinner at home) that I sampled. The audio came through loud and clear, even if the dialogue is soft spoken.
I'll see how it is in full whenever I get around to viewing the film again. I start school tomorrow and am working alot lately. So I'll have very little movie time.

I would think that the new release should easily best the Ventura/Chimera non-anamorphic one, but I'd really like to know if it's better than the R2/PAL-UK release (or the German Rapid-Eye release, a disc I don't have but I understand is supposed to be as good as the UK one).

Watched this for the first time a few nights ago. Messed up flick. Just as I like my Takashi

I picked this up. The coloring matches the R2 Tartan UK remaster if the Beaver's screenshots are anything to go by. I was able to find ghosting by using the still feature of my player, so I suspect it is a PAL to NTSC conversion of the same transfer as Tartan. Whether this will show itself in artefacts while watching the film normally I can't say yet.
This Lion's Gate version is cheap with good extras. I actually had the Tartan on my radar, but it never became cheap enough for me. However, if I find any unpleasant video side-effects while watching the Lion's Gate, I'll keep my eye open for the day I can pick up Tartan cheap!

Marc Walkow has apparently been working on producing some bonus features for a "mystery" Miike film rerelease on both DVD and Blu-Ray, although the hints he apparently gave essentially confirmed that it was for Audition. He hasn't said which company is releasing it (although he did confirm in an e-mail to a poster on criterionforums.com that it wasn't Criterion), though it should be announced soon.
