Any word on a two-disc The Exorcist?
I read that Warner Bros. had two versions of The Exorcist. One directed by William Friedkin and an original version by another director. I read this in an issue of Premiere magazine. It said that Warner Bros. may release both versions. The original one was canned for not beight scarry enough or something. I'll try to find the issue where I got this info so you can read it yourself.

He's definitely thinking of Exorcist: The Beginning.
Warner originally hired Paul Schrader (Auto Focus) to direct. When he turned in his cut, they hated it because it didn't have enough explosions and gore, so they fired his ass and brought in Renny Harlin (Cutthroat Island) to start over from scratch.
Rumor is that the DVD will contain both versions.

Did you guys get your info from Premiere mag? If you did that would help me remember. But I am shure that the small article I read was about the 1973 Exorcist. I will try to find the magazine so I can scan the article. Of course, there is that chance that I am mistaken.

You're definitely thinking of Exorcist: The Beginning. And, yes, Premiere mentioned this... as did just about every other movie magazine, CNN, and lots of other places. It was pretty widely reported that they had shelved an entire movie and reshot it with a new director.

Well, there's also the two cuts of the original Exorcist. About 2-3 years ago they recut the original to be closer to the original book. It's not very many changes, and it's labeled as "The Version You've Never Seen", since most folks wouldn't understand "The Author's Cut". Both the original and the newer cut are on DVD.
This is in addition to the two versions of Exorcist: The Beginning.

Ya, it's kind of funny that basically every EXORCIST film has at least one alternate version. EXORCIST 2 was also yanked and re-edited shortly after its original theatrical release and EXORCIST 3 had studio tampering to change the ending and add gore prior to its theatrical release (the original cut is still MIA, though). Now we have two EXORCIST 4's! So we're up to about 8 now.
