And you don't even want to bother to call them to find out? Maybe it's just me, but if I wanted a movie, I'll find out whatever I need to find out with a phone call if need be, or look at the prices next time I happen to be at that store....

Get out there and find it. The information is out there. This forum has plenty of sources.

Oh, and Shrek 2 doesn't have an insert either. Now you REALLY probably don't want to buy it, huh?

yeah, but he wants to save a buck... seriously, you'll just spend the buck on a pack of gum or a soda at the check out stand anyways.

not only save money you save time and gas...take how much you make an hour and how many miles to the store and your gas mileage, ad the the time you take and that is your final price invested in saving that $0.99....

Well, guys and gals, after all that, guess what happened?
I got the DVD for free. And yes, widescreen.
Put simply, the sales clerk made a mistake, and to make it right, I was given a full refund - which I didn't really ask for, but graciously accepted.
This is the second free DVD I've gotten. The first was Tremors, because it scanned at a price higher than its sticker, and the store has a scanner guarantee policy that says you get it free if it scans wrong.

There is a reason companies do not advertise the price of dvds and other products. Most companies get reimbursed on the products that they advertise in their circulars or what have you. In some cases, some products have a minimum advertised price and if that price is lower on the their ad then they would not get reimbursed for that ad. So this is not something you are going to see go away. This is strictly business related not to irritate the consumer, which is a side effect of this practice.

I thought it was common knowledge that the price closest to the new release DVD (but actually appearing as a nearby DVD's price) was, in fact, the new DVD's price as well.
In other words, take a look at the Best Buy ad below. Shrek 2 is shown with "Hot Price". Now, right next to it is Ju-On, with a price of $16.99. You'll notice that the $16.99 price kind of leans over toward the Shrek 2 photo. That's your "Hot Price", for those in the know. It's never been inaccurate, in my experience.
