Ultimate Matrix Collection - Are you upgrading or doubledipping ?

Hi Everybody,
As a fan of the Matrix movies, I have all three films including the Matrix Revisited and the Animatrix release. With the current Blockbuster promotion in which trade in's are worth a minimum $8 each, I was considering trading in all five of my Matrix dvds in order to upgrade to the Ultimate Matrix Collection that comes out in December. I'm very undecided on whether this new set is worth upgrading and I usually only keep one release of any particular dvd. Since the trade in promotion for $8 per dvd ends at the end of October, I want to decide on this before the promotion ends. It makes no sense to sell these dvds on Ebay since there isn't a market for them. I am aware that the original Matrix release will be re-colored in order to reflect the colors of the two sequels. Your thoughts are welcome. Perhaps a poll in this forum would help those who are undecided. Moderator, please link this with the other Ultimate Matrix or Blockbuster Trade in threads if you feel that would be best.

I sold the Matrix, Matrix Reloaded, & The Animatrix to my brother. I have already pre-ordered the 10 disk set. The extras and improved transfer on the first film are well worth the double dip.

If you have a Blockbuster in your area participating in the $8 rebate, I would trade your current disks in and use the credit towards the upgrade.

PixyJunket 10-21-04 12:22 PM

If they release a new SE of the original Matrix, I'll get it.

I have no interest in the sequels or cartoons.

fumanstan 10-21-04 12:24 PM

I traded all my Matrix DVD's to Blockbuster for specifically this reason. I had The Matrix, Reloaded, Revolutions, and Animatrix. Considering the Ultimate Collection will be around 50 dollars, getting 32 dollars back for the 4 DVD's I already owned is a good enough deal for me. The new transfer on The Matrix, the commentaries, and the extra discs of features make it a no brainer for me.

Artman 10-21-04 12:24 PM

The only thing i'm debating is whether or not to keep the original Matrix since it may be revised somewhat in the UC. But yeah I'd want to go the BBV route if I do (which I most likely will).

I held out on the sequels so no double-dipping there.

Josh H 10-21-04 12:57 PM

No, they're mediocre movies, I don't care to watch any extras, thus I'm fine with the current releases.

Michael Corvin 10-21-04 01:02 PM

I have everything released so far, and I am interested in the box. Unfortunately there isn't a BBV near that is doing the offer in my area. I would dump them in a heartbeat. Especially Revisted and Animatrix which are pretty worthless, resale-wise. I wish I held out on Revolutions. It is still in the shrink wrap. Reloaded though I have enjoyed a few times.

ruk 10-21-04 01:29 PM

i sold everything from the matrix trilogy to get this box set

TylerDurden_73 10-21-04 01:31 PM

I will be double dipping on this...

Skull 10-21-04 01:38 PM

Sequels were a big let down, no double dip for me.

matome 10-21-04 01:42 PM

Nope, if they put out a DTS version of the original I would pick that up. Other than that the current releases of the sequels are fine with me.

darqleo 10-21-04 02:05 PM

Bought The Matrix back in 1999
Bought The Animatrix when it came out.
Held off on buying any of the others when news of this box set was making the rounds.
Once they officially announced it, I sold off both DVDs.

I may keep the original Matrix if the isolated score is dropped, or any other features. Otherwise I'll just give them away to a friend.

Nope - not worth it - Reloaded was long enough - I need another hour?

Altimus Prime 10-21-04 02:31 PM

The Matrix was the first movie I bought when I bought my first DVD player just over a year ago.

I have all three movies now, and no plans to get the new release or get rid of what I have now. They all look good to me.

I'll spend my money buying stuff I don't have yet.

asianxcore 10-21-04 02:32 PM

nope won't be upgrading or double dipping.

what they should do is throw the first movie into a keepcase, to match the other 2.

Get Me Coffee 10-21-04 02:59 PM

Not going to double dip! Not for these movies.

SRotblat 10-21-04 03:03 PM

Never got around to picking any of them up, I've got the set sans head on order now.

jrobinson 10-21-04 03:03 PM

I only have the Matrix... so, I might pick this up.

Supposedly NONE of the features on the original discs are in the box set. AFAIK.

pagansoul 10-21-04 03:21 PM

Knowing me I'll get the thing if I find it in a discount store or used and in good condition.

Fok 10-21-04 03:31 PM

So all the extra's are different betwen the originals and boxset? What more can they add? I'll probably stick to the ones I have now. They have lots of extra's (which I will only watch once) and the transfers are pretty decent.

wordtoyamotha 10-21-04 03:36 PM

The orginal Matrix was one of the first dvd's I bought. I bought Reloaded and Revolutions as there were released. I have no desire to own any other Matrix related dvd's besides these.

Iron_Giant 10-21-04 03:40 PM

Matrix was one my first DVD purchased, no reason to "Re-Give money to the studio".

Do not own the 2nd Matrix, but I do own the 3rd. No desire to own the 2nd movie.

Yep. Except for Revisited and Animatrix. Those discs are identical to what is out now. So to have EVERYTHING Matrix, you have to have a 15 Disc set.

The box has 35 hours of new extras. I'm sure half of that are commentaries though. They probably include those to inflate the number. Still a hefty amount though.

Me too. Loved The Matrix. I didn't like 2, and I actively disliked 3, but I never picked up Animatrix and I'd really like to hear the new 'dueling' commentaries, so if I find a deal I'll bite.

Grolim 10-21-04 04:07 PM

I'm definitely getting it. The collectors set and all.

gutwrencher 10-21-04 04:17 PM

neither....I've had my fill.

juicerocket 10-21-04 04:20 PM

I never bought the original 3, or Animatrix, only because I knew eventually they'd sell a SE or box set. I'll buy the collectors set, and keep an eye out for any Limited Editions that might come out overseas.

Hmm maybe I will double dip if the extra's are different. Are the movies a longer cut?

Johnny Zhivago 10-21-04 04:32 PM

Only the first film, if it's released on it's own and the reviews are favorable... Maybe. Don't care for the others...

shizawn 10-21-04 04:50 PM

Yeah I'm planning on upgrading. I guess I'll take advantage of the BBV deal. If I can get $8 per, that'd be like $32 towards the new set.

I normally give my mom dvds I upgrade but I don't know if she would watch The Matrix.

gtyper 10-21-04 04:54 PM

I bought the first one, but avoided the others like the plague.

In my opinion, they came near ruining the first movie for me. But, I guess that is the job of most sequels.

Anyhow, I'll probably break down and buy the new set - because that's MY job. But, I'll keep the original Matrix if they plan on doing any alterations to the first movie.

buckee1 10-21-04 06:03 PM

I'm still on the fence with this one. On one hand I'd like a better transfer for the first film but, I don't really watch it now. The other two and the anime have each been watched only once so, I guess, I'm leaning on keeping what I have and skipping this set for now.

Kakkarat 10-21-04 07:09 PM

Just sold the Animatrix and Matrix Revisited to blockbuster. I'll be keeping all 3 of the current movie releases. And I'll buy the Ultimate Collection. I can't help it, I'm a sucker for extras on movies I really like. And yes, I do like the sequals (and LOVE the first)

blindrocket 10-21-04 07:21 PM

The Matrix was the first DVD that I ever bought, and I love the trilogy.

I have The Matrix, The Matrix Revisited, and The Animatrix... I just KNEW that a boxset would be coming so I've held off on getting Reloaded and Revolutions.
I already have the boxset preordered. ;)

That sums me up. If they release just the first as an SE, I will buy just that. If Columbia House does another 55% off sale (long story) and I can get it for around $35, I may pick up the set and sell the other three.

lisadoris 10-21-04 07:49 PM

I already donated my original Matrix and the Animatrix to the local library in anticipation of the new box set.

aa-dvd 10-21-04 08:38 PM

So, I know the WB said that the current extras will not be included. Does this mean that if I get rid of my current disks I will be missing extra, or does it mean that they are on the new set in some form (extented, different order, supplemental disk, etc?) Anyone know or should I just wait? If it is all taken from the same pool of material I would love to trade these puppies in at BBV.

GregS 10-21-04 08:43 PM

double dipping
