I'm wondering if it's worth getting rid of Braveheart to Blockbuster. I'm afraid that the current commentary and documentary won't be included in the new disc and it will be all new features and that you'll need both discs to get all the supplements similar to the upcoming Matrix boxset and the previous versions. What do you think on that possibility?

Airplane is quite possibly my favorite film of all time, so I would certainly double dip that one. Would also DD on Ferris and I have been holding out on buying Titanic because of the need for an SE treatment. Hope these rumors come true!

Looks like a rebuy for Braveheart, and it looks like my years of waiting finally paid off with Face-Off, Airplane & Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Most of these minus Braveheart and maybe Titanic I'll skip. Well I might get Face/Off as well if it is worth it.

Man, I'd love to see a SE of South Park: BLU, and I'd double-dip it in a heartbeat. I'd probably double-dip on Titanic too, provided it's anamorphic. Not so sure with the others. The list of extras would have to be stellar for me to consider repurchasing.

I know they *were* extremely busy with 'Team America', and now they've got another run of "South Park" and, according to a few interviews, they'll be spending a year after *that* suing the MPAA [without hijacking the thread, their basic argument is that the MPAA is in the studios' pockets and illegally holds indie films back] ... so, much as I'd like to see it, I dunno if it'll happen anytime soon.

The unfortunate reality is that, with the exception of maybe Titanic and possibly South Park: BLU (if it happens), most of these special editions won't be as special as one might hope. For example: the recent Untouchables and Deep Impact special editions had a few short featurettes and an unimpressive commentary for Deep Impact...if it hadn't been for the new anamorphic transfer, it wouldn't have been worth the upgrade. Granted, the new transfer was highly appreciated, but still.... It's not the quantity I'm complaining about; Deep Impact doesn't require four commentaries and 40 hours of special features. It's really a quality issue. As with their feature film division, Paramount seems to usually take the safe-and-cheap route by having a few short featurettes that will never be as fully satisfying as one 45-minute documentary.
In regards to the upcoming Top Gun: Special Edition, that was put together by the Scotts' "personal" DVD producer, Charles deLaurizika, so that doesn't entirely count. Also, the Star Trek re-releases have been Star Trek-related, so those also don't entirely count. I'm talking about the run of the mill Paramount film and the subsequent not-so-special edition they generally put out.
Indeed, I would love a Face/Off special edition with commentary, deleted scenes, sequence breakdowns, perhaps even an actual documentary. But instead, we'll likely get four 10-minute talking-head featurettes entitled, "Take His Face Off: Makeup" and "Planes, Boats, and Automobiles: The Vehicles of Face/Off." It's just disappointing to look forward to a genuine special edition only to find a lackluster disc that should have been the first release rather than the "special edition." Just my two cents.

I've been holding out for a re-release of Face/Off. I've been really tempted as the current version is really cheap but I can wait. The Truman Show in anamorphic finally as well! I wouldn't bet on Peter Weir doing a commentary though based on the Master and Commander DVD. Maybe Jim Carrey can do it. A Braveheart SE would have to really be something though as the current version has a decent amount of extras. Nothing less than 2 discs and DTS for me.
Amen.
Anamorphic Titanic is all I ask. You'd think the highest grossing film of all time would warrant just a bit better release.

Figures since I just broke down and bought Face/Off. I wouldn't mind some extra features but I thought the transfer and the DD 5.1 track were actually pretty good.
