That said, still can't wait to pick this up.

Haha....Cable from X-Men.....that's pretty funny....though, it's X-Force, isn't it?

Yeah, that's not a real good picture of Batou on the front, and if that's the Major behind him, whoever did the cover art must have skipped the GITS viewing session.

But hey, noone who's been waiting for this will be dissuaded by an ugly cover.....

I hope that's a mock-up cover, cause that's really ugly--though I'll buy it anyway, cause it's the movie that counts.

One thing I never understood about the poster art is that large white ball. It looks too big to be a part of the gynoid, so what is it? Otherwise, that picture is far superior to the cover art we're seeing now.

$29.99 SRP, Japanese 5.1 and NO ENGLISH DUB. But, really, anime fans who watch their shows in English should be ashamed.....I'll only watch something in English if I have to review it....or if I don't have an option (damn screeners)....

1.85:1 widescreen.

Director's commen., making of, and a trailer. Skimpy, but it could've been worse....really, though, this was a golden opportunity to go all out, do a GITS history and everything....but anime isn't Dreamworks' bread and butter, so you can't blame 'em....

The lack of an English dub makes up for such shitty cover art - I'd be replacing it anyways for a cover with the correct title.

Sorry, geeky off-topic post.

Well, he didn't start in X-Force, & if it wasn't for the X-men in general the character wouldn't exist, so that's why I put "from X-men".

Hmm... any more thoughts on the movie? It's playing at a local theater, tempted to check it out.
Let me tell you, I saw this in the theater, and no DVD presentation would compare to seeing it on the huge cinema screen. See it at the movies while you can! Some images are so dense with details, you'll miss them on DVD. This was an amazing movie-going experience. I found it very different from the first Ghost in the Shell. This is definitely a more philosophical film, brilliantly portrayed with imagery and narrative.

Now, as for my two cents on the cover art-- the poster art is so much more interesting! Shame they did not use that. Just more kudos for the cinematic experience of the film (at my theater they were giving out posters of Innocence, and I saw it two weeks into its run).

Take a look at the R2 Collector's Box. I only could wish I could afford that so I'm picking up the Dog box.

Thanks. I had decided to check this out on Friday anyway, but the enthusiasm for the movie has my hopes up

If you recall the ending of the first movie, the Major's original body was destroyed.

True....I guess the picture of her I have in my mind is from "Standalone Complex," but there's no continuity apparently between "Innocence" and the TV series....damnit, she looked better in the original movie!

Speaking of the TV series, the third volume for GITS TV is by far the best yet.....remember the movie "Strange Days?" One of the standalone episodes totally reminded me of it....

Reviewed it for Video Store Magazine (this week's edition).

Excellent mix of the Standalone/Complex episode format.....and this next SE edition includes a DTS disc and a T-shirt...I suggest a double-dip for anyone who didn't pick of the SE for volume one....best soundtrack since Neon Genesis: Evangelion....but that's just an opinion.....

Stand Alone Complex is a side-quel to the movies, not a direct sequel. It takes place around the same time or just before the first movie.

The character standing behind Batou on the cover of Innocence is a sex-bot. Part of the plot involves a company that produces them in mass quantities.

(Trying not to give away too many spoilers here.)

Stand Alone Complex actually is set a year after the first movie. It's based off the manga, just like the movie was based off the manga. They are not set in the same reality, they were different interpretations of the manga. Though they both share some similar things (like the voice actors, or that the personalitys of the characters are pretty much the same- compaired to the manga, where there are some radical differences.)

Innocence takes place after the first Ghost in the Shell movie, and like that movie, is in no way set in the same "reality" as the TV series. Though, again, they both share some similar things (an example would be Batou's long hair, which he has in the TV series. In flashbacks on the TV series, he has short hair like in the manga/first movie.)

The 10th episode of the series, is one of the best in the show's run, yes. There's another good Batou episode later on as well, but this one is the best.

Also, there is no reason why anyone should just assume the character on the cover is Kusanagi. I don't even know how that was brought up...

SAC can't both take place "a year after" and "in a different reality" when compared to the first movie. It's a separate adaptation, period, but if you really want to place it chronologically, it has to be a prequel series, because Kusanagi is in her original body.

FYI Bandai and Manga already have a second season of GITS TV planned for DVD, beginning late 2005, I believe. It's currently airing in Japan (though I'm not sure if it's PPV like the first season).

Constant refrences are made between Batou and the Major about her body (he eggs her on and asks "when are you going to give it up and get a stronger male body?"). In a world where anyone with cybernetic brain implants can move between bodies, I wouldn't put much stock in the Major's body....though that opening CGI sequence shows her younger body unable to control itself and destroy her doll....

Interesting! Can't wait to see GITS 2! But I don't know if I dare to watch or buy the second season of GITS STAC, it is just so expensive for me! I will just buy the last six discs of the first season and thats it! I have also started to collect the Neon Genesis series....
