Blockbusters turn
I posted this over at DVDBargains...
Netflix vs Blockbuster Battle Has Begun You have to love competition. First Netflix and now Blockbuster. As of Oct. 25, 2004, you'll pay only $17.49 a month, plus applicable tax, to enjoy up to three DVDs out at a time. Keep five movies out at a time for only $27.49 a month or eight out at a time for $37.49 a month. As always, there are no return dates, no extended viewing fees and shipping is free both ways. E-coupons for FREE in-store game rentals! Your two monthly e-coupons redeemable for FREE in-store movie rentals at participating BLOCKBUSTER® stores are now good for in-store game rentals as well. |

Just and update on my account at the $15.99/unlimited price (see page two) from the "View Membership Terms" page:
You received a 14 day free trial, which ended on 10/28/2004. You are currently in the 3-at-a-time program. Your current period price is $15.99 (plus any applicable tax) . Your next period begins on 11/29/2004. Membership fees are billed at the beginning of each period. The regular price of the 3-at-a-time program is $15.99 (plus any applicable tax). |
So BB is slightly cheaper than netflix, but I'll still stick with netflix.
$15.99 for 3 out? That's likely a ploy to get new users. I didn't recieve an email where netflix said they switched me. Did anyone else can the email? |

Has anyone else had their Netflix service degrade since the price cut? Before the price cut, my movies ALWAYS shipped the same day that they received them. Since the price cut, my movies ALWAYS ship the next day after receiving them. And all were listed as "available Now". Is anyone else experiencing this trend?
I emailed them about it and their response was that their policy is that movies will be sent out within 24 hours. I guess that is one way to save money for them. |
So Blockbuster's mail service is now cheaper, with 3 titles out at a time, than it's in-store Movie Pass, which allows for only 2 out at a time?
That's tempting, especially since I'd save about $10 a month with tax. The only difference is that I can stop off in the store every day after work, instead of relying on the postal service, and get up to 10 titles a week with more on the weekend. Still, at some point you run out of titles because the B&Ms can't carry a library as big. Does anyone know when the promised Blockbuster combo service is supposed to start? |
It's worth $0.50 a month to not give money to Blockbuster... :D
|
If I send on Monday, they recieve them on Tuesday, they send out the next ones in my queue, I get the new ones on Wednesday.

Don't look for Blockbuster to set any records getting you your movies. I e-mailed them complaining about it about a month ago and was told that they have a scheme to speed things up in the next two months.
For my money Netflix does a splendid job. |

The shipping times were just as fast as Netflix, but Blockbuster would just randomly ship things from my queue, and they'd sometimes not check movies in as received until very late in the day (and then not ship out a replacement disc until the next day). Overall, the service was slower (but not considerably so), and it was annoying to not really know what you were going to get shipped to you (the queue was completely useless as a tool of preference. They would routinely skip over dozens of discs listed as "available now" when choosing the next disc to send). |
