Whoa.... freaky.
17.99 with Opera. 17.99 with Netscape. 19.99 with IE. 21.99 with Firefox. |
i used their 2-week free intro offer, and then cancelled. i just logged into the site, and i get the same old membership deals. but the new reduced membership is listed on the front page when i'm logged out. they may be trying to stiff previous trial members, but it could also be laziness in updating the site. i'm using Safari.

signed up with the 15.99 deal - using FireFox

IE here, still says 3-at-a-time for $21.99. So on Firefox you get 15.99 for 3-at-a-time unlimited????
Also I saw this: Q: Does Netflix offer different rental plans and monthly rates? How do I change my rental membership? A: Netflix does offer different rental plans to suit the needs of our customers. The standard plan is unlimited rentals with 3 movies out at one time. Available plans include: 8-at-a-time for $49.99 5-at-a-time for $33.99 3-at-a-time for $21.99 2-at-a-time (4 rentals a month) for $14.99 How are some getting 15.99 with firefox :( From the main page: Rent all the DVDs you want for $21.99 a month — NO LATE FEES! |
I just went to another PC, IE brought up 19.99, I logged out of Netflix from my recent sign-up and went back to the main page and see 15.99 again.
Seems to be they are some how making it random which price you see... |

I really don't like the way this is happening. I have beeen a loyal customer for 2 1/2 years and recently went to 5 at a time. They should offer folks like me the lower rates as well for paying for there service for a while. Hell, it wouldn't suprise me if tons of their subscribers quit then rejoin. It's like the place where I work. They have been trying to lure more skilled & experienced employees because we have hired some real losers recently and the good ones leave due to the organization's low pay (I am on the verge myself). They upped the incoming salaries to lure more quality employees. Meanwhile, the loyal quality employees get the shaft as someone just entering the organization gets paid more than someone who's been here for 5+ years doing the same thing. S woman I work with quit then asked to be re-hired and she actually got a raise for quitting. That's f'ed up.

I STILL don't see 15.99 on the main page!
What do you think is the best way to approach something like that? FAQ says 21.99: http://www.netflix.com/HowItWorks under "How much does it cost?" |
I just got off the phone with Netflix Customer Service, and I was told that the new rate is going to be $17.99 effective November 1st. Starting November 1st your account will be automatically switched to the new rate (this applies to those of us currently on the $21.99 plan). I also inquired about the $15.99 rate and was told that it is only temporary to pull in new customers and they too would be switched to the new $17.99 plan come November 1st.

I hope that it is 17.99. I made the dumb mistake and switched to Blockbuster. There services is terrible. I am just waiting for my current month to end and I am switching back to Netflix. The new price will be a welcome since this is the reason I left Netflix.

Keep deleting cookies and trying again. On the 3rd try I got $17.99 (Firefox, and right after that in IE), and on the 8th try I got $15.99 (Firefox). However, when it got to the Select Program page I was offered $21.99, probably because I cancelled only a month ago.
|
Initially I didn’t switch to blockbuster because I knew that netflix is more experienced in this field and blockbuster would be competitively inefficient.
|
That appears to have been the problem. After three tries, I just got the $17.99 rate in IE. Before deleting any cookies, it showed $19.99. After the first two deletion attempts, it showed $21.99. Then, after the third try, $17.99. Very interesting.

I've got $15.99 for unlimited 3-at-a-time on Firefox here. Nifty.

Investors don't care about current customers (although as the market gets more competitive eventually the focus will shift to "churn" and "retention"). Stock holders want to see their money grow, and current customers don't make money grow. New customers, new business, additional business . . . that is what makes an investment grow. My prediction . . . as it has been for some time (and has slowly been happening) . . . look for their customer service to decline severely over time. It always happens after a company goes public. As for your work situation Fruedguy (edited out to keep the quote brief) -- while I was in college I worked in a call center. I sat next to a guy who had been with the company for 18 years, and was making the same thing that I was after a few months. Basically, after he had been there for a while and had about capped out his pay level, they began coinciding all his raises with across the board wage increases (such as minimum wage increases, company issued bumps, etc.). I was surprised that they didn't just stop cutting him a check like in Office Space! |
This is a short rant becuase I have nowhere else to put it and I need to let some steam off.
Damn Netflix! What the hell? I sent out my last three DVDs on Saturday and usually the next batch arrives on Tuesday (I receive it the day after it ships). I then send them back the next day and get a new batch on Friday. That's six discs a week. With Columbus Day, it was pushed back until Wednesday. When Wednesday's mail came, it didn't arrive. Didn't come with Thursday's or today's. If it doesn't come tomorrow, they'll all be reported as missing in the mail. Not exactly Netflix's fault (probably the mail's), but I'm still pissed. I was hoping to get six discs this week but instead I'll get none. :( Anyway, if this keeps up, the value will definitely diminish. This is even worse than the time that I returned three discs at the beginning of the week and they didn't even receive them until the next week. Anyway, if rates go down to $17, I might be calmer if things like this happen in the future. |

Originally posted by RussG Isn't that kinda like bait-and-switch since November 1st is 2 1/2 weeks away? You didn't think they'd let them stay at 15.99 forever? |
