i just called them and they said the 15.99 is just a promo to lure in new customers; after a couple months their monthly rental price will jump as well to $17.99...

i tried signing up for the 15.99 trial but since i had an account with them before it wouldn't let me; i even used a different email account! damn them...

I accept only getting 3 discs a week, but if it ever drops below that I will cancel. I prefer to get more than 3 discs a week though. I hope that it stays unlimited.

So, what's going to happen when they automatically move people to the $17.99 monthly fee? Are they going to limit them to 10 rentals per month?

In my original reply a couple of pages back I CUT & PASTED the text from the NetFlix $17.99 Offer that said you would only get 10 DVDs per month.

Here it is again:

Always have up to 3 DVDs at home.

Did anyone else notice this, or was this simply the "Offer of the Minute" that Netflix made to me personally?

I'm not sure how this will sound, but......I'd rather they all priced their services at $19.95 rather than play price wars with one another and in turn offer less value for the money. Then it would be a case of the winner being who has the best service and selection. I see a turnaround of about one cycle of dvds per week with netflix, they have a great selection and currently are pretty reliable. Saving two bucks but getting fewer dvds is no bargain. As I've received no e-mail announcements from them as yet I wonder just what will be the norm for current members?

well this is good news.....i cancelled a few months ago because i just wasn't getting my money's worth over the summer....and will be gone all next month. but $18 a month makes it a no-brainer....

oh...and when i just checked, it said $17.99 for 16 a month, not 10. go figure.

Very true. What is going on? This is the like the third or fourth different offer I've seen in the past day.

After getting my CC bill and seeing that i am getting billed 23.09.... got to "cancel" and hope to get a little price drop on it....

I joined the other day at the $15.99 per month rate and the deal I got was 3 at a time, unlimited per month.

Good move because it looks like they're back up to 21.99.

For the current customers (I am) paying $21.99 for 3/unlimited monthly fees are reduced to $17.99 will the max monthly rentals still be unlimited or 10?

According to the official Netflix press release from 10/14/2004(see http://ir.netflix.com/NEWS/Q404/NFLX1014-642564.pdf ):

"For $17.99 a month (effective Nov. 1, 2004), Netflix customers rent as many dvds as they want, and keep them as long as they want, with three movies out at a time."

That statement can be found in the "About Netflix" paragraph on page 3 of the press release.

That would be awesome! Outstanding service and an awesome price. You cannot beat it.

Does anyone know of a price change for the other options? I am currently receiving 8 at a time and I would love to see the price drop down from 49.99.

it doesn't make sense why some people are seeing unlimited rentals and some of us are seeing a max of 10 rentals w/the lowered prices....

So on Nov. 1st are our prices suppose to automaticly drop?

According to The Motley Fool, Netflix is also postponing it's launch in the UK and it's Video on Demand joint venture with Tivo in order to capture as much market share as they can before Amazon can lauch their service.

my account says they are gonna bill me the 21.99 on 10/30. Thats only a day before the official change on 11/1. Any chance if I contacted them theyd give the reduced rate a day early? anybody else getting billed the day before the price change

A: We are lowering the prices on all subscription programs effective November 1st, 2004.

Our new pricing is as follows:

* 2-at-a-time, 4 rentals per month: $11.99/month
* 3-at-a-time Unlimited: $17.99/month
* 5-at-a-time Unlimited: $29.99/month
* 8-at-a-time Unlimited: $47.99/month

We will automatically change your billing rate to the new lower price at the time of your November billing cycle. You do not need to contact us to get the new, lower rate.

All members who finish their Free Trial period on or after November 1st, 2004 will automatically receive the new, lower price.

That's actually 2 days early. There's a chance they would give the lower rate. Or you could just cancel on the 29th then rejoin on Nov. 1.
