ALIEN vs. PREDATOR in January...

20th Century Fox will release Alien vs. Predator on 1/25/05 as a single-disc theatrical edition. The disc will include an alternate opening and a couple of deleted scenes. More info will follow...

Jackskeleton 10-13-04 05:33 AM

I wonder if P.W.S.A will stand by his word and have those deleted scenes make this movie worth it.

either way I know I'll buy it because of price and the love of seeing Predators on the big screen.

steebo777 10-13-04 08:14 AM

Only if he completely re-edits the film and puts in more gore will I buy this DVD.

speedy1961 10-13-04 08:17 AM

It needs something added back in to regarner my interest. I saw the movie and it didn't do much for me.

If additional scenes / supplements are there, I'll be in as I'm a huge Alien / Predator fan.

Big Worms 10-13-04 09:00 AM

Cool! I haven't decided if I want to get this one yet. I guess it will depend on what is on the DVD.

Snowmaker 10-13-04 09:08 AM

I'll wait for the Director's Cut.

sataniko 10-13-04 09:12 AM

I'll skip this one.

Damed 10-13-04 09:36 AM

You KNOW they're just setting us up for the double dip. A few months later the director's cut will come out.

cajun_junky 10-13-04 09:37 AM

Hopefully we will know in advance if a DC will follow the single dvd release. They will need to add back some of the deleted scenes in order to get my $$.

A couple of deleted scenes are not going to save this piece of crap. There was just too much wrong with this film for 120 seconds of trimmed footage to repair.

Geofferson 10-13-04 11:34 AM

I'll pass on this, but want to see the eventual director's cut.

The Monkees 10-13-04 11:39 AM

People are actually going to BUY this?

Why? The movie was horrible and W.S. has ruined the Alien & Predator series!

Anyway, to each his own.

I can't remember what site I read it on -- I think I found the link in a post on this board -- but someone connected with the film said that he exaggerated the existance of all the supposedly integral deleted scenes he was forced to cut, and his claims were mostly just his way of covering up for poor reviews. I'm interested to see what the Paul W. Anderson cut looks like if and when it ever comes out.

Remember how everyone was anticipating the new Star Wars prequal,...and how much of a let down Episode I was?
THIS is MY Episode I.

You know, I tried to give it a chance. I really did. Went to see it twice, ...but oh my God. I'm a huge Alien & Predator fan. Heck, I have the AIM Screen Name "AliensVsPredator". This movie just made me sad in so many levels. I could rant on and on about it, but I'll spare you all.

Yes...I'm buying the DVD. ugh

REL77 10-13-04 12:28 PM

I want to see this as i missed it in the theaters... Lets hope for a bloody DC

It's in movie talk in the AVP thread there. trust me, I was all over that thread and yes, I'm one that is in the belief that Anderson was just bullshitting and pointing fault at fox for the failure that was the film when it was all him. The one disproving him was the original script writer who worked with it. It's an interesting read and yeah, I think it's all smoke being blown to escape mob justice.

darmok 10-13-04 01:45 PM

yeah, he wrote the damn story, and there were just too many logic flaws and inconsistencies that i walked away from the theater feeling cheated. patching the movie with a few extra bits here and there won't fix what is inherently wrong -- a bad script.

As did I, even with the free ticket from the Predator CE. How dumb was that?

Maybe at the least it will make me appreciate my Quadrilogy set more.

Jackskeleton 10-13-04 02:24 PM

This could have been a great film if it was R rated
even with an R rating, it would have sucked because of P.W.S.A's script.

Abob Teff 10-13-04 02:38 PM

This breaking news just in . . . Paul WS Anderson has ackowledged Fox's announcement regarding a one disc, essentially bare bones release of his opus "Aliens Vs. Predator." Anderson has speculated in the past that a Director's Cut would be released fixing all of the "studio forced" cutting that drew less than stellar reviews from critics. Anderson has announced that his version of Aliens Vs. Predator will be released in a special marketing event being called "Paul WedneSday Anderson Day." The special release pattern will occur on a Wednesday and will also include the Director's Cut of Event Horizon.

ABOB TEFF DISCLAIMER: (Before anybody starts getting suckered in, this is a jab at Anderson who has long claimed that their is another cut or a special edition of Event Horizon as well.)

I will skip this release and hold out hope beyond hope that there actually is a better cut coming some day.

You are better off hoping for AvP2 with a different director/writer. And get Stan Winston back for chrissakes.

Iron_Giant 10-13-04 03:02 PM

The movie was very short, but my son and I had a great time going to see it together and he wants me to buy it on DVD.

QuiGonJosh 10-13-04 03:06 PM

Anyone notice in the rebate thing inside Day After Tomorrow that it lists AVP and says its Rated R?

DC?

maybe?

gbub 10-13-04 03:08 PM

Geez, first House of 1000 Corpses DC falls to the wayside, now I find out there may not actually be an R rated version of AvP:((of course they'll call it unrated).

TylerDurden_73 10-13-04 03:09 PM

This movie just has the worst word of mouth reviews. I'll likely rent it.

nightmaster 10-13-04 06:07 PM

I'll pick it up cheap for my 12 year old. Otherwise its not worth having.

NotoriousDRE 10-13-04 06:44 PM

I loved this movie....cant wait for the release!

Dazed 10-14-04 12:01 AM

Average film and obviously they are planning a double dip on this one.

Be interested to see a Director Cut to find out if Paul WS Anderson is more than just a Hack. He seems to blame the studio so lets see what his cut was like so we can make our own minds up.

I still regret using mine.

Well, I presume you have at least been spared the temptation of buying the DVD...I still face that.

Yes. I have been cured.

Cornelius1047 10-14-04 03:04 AM

Wow, look at all the threadcraps up in here. Sure, there might only be about 2 posts otherwise, but it seems unfair to attack someone who comes in says how much they love the movie and can't wait for the DVD. I mean, it's funny and all, but still. While I have no interest in this DVD (I clicked on the link cuz I'm very bored and have no TV right now) or ever sitting through the movie again (thank God for free passes inside DVDs of better movies), I'm not gonna come into a thread about its release and trash the movie.

Or, ya know, I am.

K

Jackskeleton 10-14-04 03:57 AM

Opinion != thread crap.

but it seems unfair to attack someone who comes in says how much they love the movie and can't wait for the DVD.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but no one really seems to be attacked for showing any interest or enjoyment of the film. Sure the one new member got a "I'm sorry". But that isn't really attacking him other than creating a "zing" worthy responses for the purpose of a general joke and not an attack on that member.

I'm not gonna come into a thread about its release and trash the movie.
But you'll come in a thread to criticise those criticising a movie? Makes you wonder how long this vicious cycle can continue.. don't it?

Cornelius1047 10-14-04 04:22 AM

Wow, never thought I'd see the day when Jackskeleton and I would tussle.

You've obviously missed my entire point though. The "I'm sorry" line we're both referring to? I laughed. It was funny. And oh so true. That doesn't change the fact, however, that this whole thread is littered with what could be considered threadcraps. Maybe it's cuz I was just reading the threadcrapping thread and I'm really bored, but it seems like the purpose of this thread was to discuss the DVD and its extras, not the quality of the movie, therefore negative comments (opinions or not) are threadcraps. You know?

I don't know. It just feels like cuz it's a movie most people disliked (or outright hated), it's not held to the same scrutiny in regards to threadcrapping. I could be wrong though. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.

We cool, homedawg.

K

Jackskeleton 10-14-04 04:57 AM

but it seems like the purpose of this thread was to discuss the DVD and its extras
at current time there isn't any info on what those extras will be. I think the thread is currently doing an ok job at discussing the potential. That being that a lot of people agree that they will wait for a DC because the very few extra scenes that is proposed to be added currently would not make the film any better then they thought it was.

A lot of ill feelings are in the thread, but that is for a reason. The film didn't live up to their expectations and since we are working off of very little info given from the first post, we can only speculate and discuss. I'm not really seeing to much attack or harmful threadcrapping involved really. I could be wrong, but it seems like everyone is voicing their opinions. Just because that opinion is not all around praise for the film doesn't mean that it is an automatic thread crap.

So pretty much we have nothing to go on but our thoughts of the film since we were told that P.W.S.A was planning or hoping to get a Directors Cut with more violence and story that will save the film from what everyone hated and we are left asking about that.

I wouldn't call it a tussle really, just a difference of opinion, which is perfectly fine to be able to discuss. not everything is black and white. Much like not everything is either a thread praise or a thread crap.

Edit: all perspective on how we look at it. As of now, I'm seeing this as clean fun. Guy gets zinged with the "I'm sorry" and it creates laughs. No one is really bashing anyone else other then P.W.S.A, which is always a deserved bash if you ask me. ;)

Okay, those are definitely threadcraps, according to this:

One commonly seen threadcrap is someone posting that "___________ is a crappy movie" in a thread dedicated to information about the movie's DVD release. The point of the thread isn't to discuss the quality of the movie, but to discuss the movie's DVD release.
Then again, I'm absolutely guilty of taking this thread off-topic and such. I'm doing the "don't", so to speak.

buckee1 10-14-04 12:05 PM

I seriously lowered my expectations going into the movie and found that I enjoyed what was shown. It's not the best AVP that could have been made but, it's still a hoot to watch anyway. I'm definately picking this up in January.
