differences between Shawshank Redemption le and regular 2 disc?
what are the main dvd differences between Shawshank Redemption (Deluxe Limited Edition) and Shawshank Redemption (Two-Disc Special Edition?
thanks |
A book and a CD soundtrack are included with the limited edition.
|
Yeah, that pretty much covers it.
|
Do they share a basic digipak? So the LE has some kind of add-on packaging for the CD and book.
|
The Region 2 release is THREE discs with extra documentaries.
|
<-- doesnt remember anyone asking about other regions

blimey what a friendly bunch you are !
|
it isn't a digipak this time...it's the same 2-disc keep case, along with a square-bound book and cd soundtrack all housed inside a flimsy-looking slipcase. i say flimsy because all five copies i saw on the shelves today were dented up at the corners rather heavily.
|
Is it in 5.1?

Alright smarmies, I'll bite the bullet and ask then . . . what are the differences in the Region 1 and 2? (And does R4 have the same as R2?)
|
The 2 disc one doesnt have any insert... at least mine didnt. :(
|
WB DVDs don't come with inserts...
|

Oh, and the R2 3-disc set has a really nice 32-page booklet that even puts Criterion booklets to shame.

Just a heads up....
The PQ on the R1 disc is MUCH BETTER than the R2 disc. You'd think they'd be the same transfer but they're not, the R1 is noticeably sharper and clearer with much better blacks. R2 looks at times almost laserdisc like with a much softer picture. So go for R2 if you have to have dts, but R1 if you want the best PQ possible. |

Originally posted by fumanstan They don't? My T3 and Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions discs beg to differ. |
Originally posted by darkside Most don't since they switched to keepcases. Those are exceptions. |
Originally posted by fumanstan Which movies don't? Last Samurai also has an insert. The only WB DVD i have in keep case that doesn't is Red Sonja. |
Originally posted by PopcornTreeCt All the Cary Grant movies in the box set are without inserts. And I'd wager to guess all the Hitchcocks are w/o inserts as well. |
Im sorry I derailed this topic... ;) :)
|
Put simply, the difference between the 2-disc special 10th anniversary edition and the "limited edition" is with the limited edition you pay about $20 more for a tiny book, a music CD and a box. Both contain the same 2-disc movie set.
|
How superior is the new transfer comparing to the old snapper version?
|
Thanks for the R2 info LASER... *adds it to his list*...
|
None of the new warner boxes have inserts, period.
Thus, their seperate 2-disc sets are starting to drop inserts, also. But this actually may only be the ones that are also in box sets (like Goodfellas). |
There are also some extras on the R1 that are NOT on the R2, and vice-versa.
I also wanted to ask; don't you all think it's kind of weird for a fairly major release like this to not even have one review even after it's been released? |
Yes... they keep saying the manufacturer didn't send any copies to them, so they can't review it... SO, BUY ONE!
|
slop101,
The prison warden is preventing any reviews at this time. However, he is expected to lift this ban in a weeks. |

A few observations about the 2-disc set:
1) The transfer is noticably better than the previous DVD. Not night-and-day, but if you have a large display, you will see the difference. I liken it to Superbits vs. the regular edition. 2) A glaring continuity error has been digitally corrected. I won't go into heavy detail for the two of you out there who still haven't seen this movie, but let's just say it involves a bullet wound late in the film. I noticed the change immediately, and not surprisingly, Darabont addresses it in his commentary. He said it's driven him nutz for 10 years and he's thrilled it's finally been fixed. 3) The trailer is 4x3 on this DVD, whereas it was 16x9 on the previous release. Bizarre. I haven't gotten to Disc 2 yet, but I thought I'd offer my thoughts on the first disc for those who are still on the fence about picking up this set. |
Hmmm looks like just the 2 disc for me, if they added a bonus dvd to the LE I would be all over it, but just a seperate book and cd don't do anything for me.
