The LE? I just got it today via Amazon... or are you referring to one without the book? I just thought the deluxe and LE one existed.

Put simply, the difference between the 2-disc special 10th anniversary edition and the "limited edition" is with the limited edition you pay about $20 more for a tiny book, a music CD and a box. Both contain the same 2-disc movie set.
Only paid $7 and change more.

No, that rumor started who preordered in Canada got e-mails saying that it would be unavailable.

The reason is that Warner apparently does not have the rights to distribute the BFI book in Canada. So the LE release will be available in the U.S. only.

Spoiler:
When Warden Norton shoots himself, the closeup shows the barrel of the gun pointed at the middle of his chin. After he fires the gun, the bullet wound is on the right side of his chin. The new DVD has corrected this digitally and the bullet wound is now right in the center where he pointed the gun.

Nobody took advantage of this opportunity to make any kind of a "you ain't my friend, palooka" reference?

Very disappointing.

Isn't that from Pulp Fiction? Vincent (John Travolta) to Butch (Bruce Willis). Not applicable in a Shawshank thread, unless someone says the same line in SR & I missed it.

I wanted the LE. also, since they did not provide an isolated score, my fave feature, the bonus ST was welcome. dammit....just give me isolated music tracks!:D

I like the painted cover. Looks like a old movie poster.

I would think that the difference is that the "Shawshank Redemption le" is in French, and the other one isn't, no? :hscratch:

MISS PEACH 10-11-04 11:48 AM

Okay, can someone clarify what the cases are for these two editions? I won't buy anything snapper — Digipack is a possibility (if I like the movie enough) but virtually anything Warner is on my blacklist unless I can be assured it's not in a snapper. Comment please?

I'm leaning toward the (LE) what exactly is in the book in the (DELUXE LE) set? Thanks!

The "normal" SE comes in a standard Amaray case with the flip holder inside holding disc one (same as Pirates of the Caribbean).

bboisvert 10-11-04 12:13 PM

And the LE has the exact same movie/case... placed in an additional box with the CD/book.

So . . . the book & CD are not in the plastic keepcase but packed with the plastic keepcase, inside of a cardboard case?

Sorry, this just confuses the hell outta me LOL.

Is the SE of Shawshank have additional footage in the movie - or is it the same as the one previously released just with an additional disc of interviews?

I'm just asking, since I've gotten other movies that were released as SE's and they added deleted footage to the movie - such as in the case of Mask (w/Cher) - that just came out as an SE.

bboisvert 10-11-04 06:02 PM

It's the exact same movie (with a slight digital enhancement to fix a continuity goof in the original film). No extra footage or other changes to the film itself. Just remastered, with extras.

mickey65 10-11-04 06:16 PM

Thanks for answering! I guess I'll save my money and hang on to my old copy!

The first disc is not the same as before. The picture has been remastered and is slightly better. Also there is a very good commentary by Frank Darabont.

I guess if you don't care for extras its not really worth upgrading, as the picture improvement isn't night and day or anything.

Why don't they make all the regions the same?
