I am pretty sure the DTS version is the only one in print right now - it is currently labeled "Fox War Classics", I got one at Best Buy in the $20 3-pack with The Siege and Courage Under Fire (DTS versions).

Malick is currently shooting a new film scheduled for release next year.

At the Virginia Film Festival a few weeks ago Billy Weber, the editor of Days of Heaven and TTRL, did a teleconference discussion of Days of Heaven. Offhandedly he asked the moderator if we were watching the "newest dvd".

Im really crossing my fingers for TTRL to be re-released. I also want Warner Bro. to give Badlands a two-disc release. It should not matter in Malick doesn't want to participate. Stanley Kubrick didnt do interviews, and that didnt stop his films from being re-released. Anyway, with a new Malick film coming in 2005, I woundnt say its impossible for a two dics Thin Red Line.

I have to admit, I find this movie to be the worst great movie I've ever seen. What does that mean? Well, the movie is beautiful to see and hear. Utterly beautiful. I honestly can't think of a movie I've ever seen that is better looking. There are tons of just breathtaking shots in this movie, shots that tell more story than most director's entire character narrative structure. Simply amazing stuff.

On the other hand, I hated the "movie" as a movie. I understand (at least I think I do) the fact that it an attempt to capture the chaotic nature of war, with characters coming and going, moving in and out, guys dying that you thought would live and living that you were sure would die, people that you thought were important that weren't and vice versa. But that doesn't make it enjoyable to watch. Don't get me wrong, I can handle a non-linear or non-standard narrative. I just didn't find the movie enjoyable. It's a Radiohead album to me... I understand there is art there, and I can see the amazing technical prowess at work, but the sum of all of that doesn't provide me with anything substantial.

Sorry I meant the WWII Box Set Collection with Patton, Tora! Tora! Tora!, and the other ones.
I *THINK* that the currently available WWII box set has the 2-disc Patton, and the Melanesian songs version of The TRL.

I know the version I bought came with the songs, as I had stupidly decided I wanted the DTS version instead, and traded the songs version in at Best Buy for $27 in store credit. Luckily, I never bought the DTS version, and I found the songs version a year later for ~10 bucks...

If you see a version of the box set with a one-disc Patton, then that one probably does NOT have the songs on The TRL.

Personally, I would get rid of the Tora! Tora! Tora! that comes in the box set, and get the SE instead.

Well, this is a DVDtalk forum for DVD Discussions. So I suppose people don't care any less or any more than they do about any other posts here. Except for your posts, which everyone cares very, very much about, due to the complex analytical nature and deep, thoughtful, Graham Greene-esque subject matter.

I think his point was that this thread is a discussion of the DVD and the audio tracks included - not a place to critique the film.

Your post equates to a thread-crap, as you offered nothing to the topic at hand and only posted your views of the film.
Feel free to express your opinions in the "Movie Talk" forum - as that's what it's there for.

My comments on the film, written in a nice way, amount to a thread crap as much as discussion of Melanesian songs do. It's somewhat related. Now a two word reply of "who cares" is a thread crap.

And yes, the DTS soundtrack on the War Classics sounds great on this disc, and visually it's stunning.

Actually, the Melanesian songs relate to the contents on the disc, rather than anyone's opinion of the quality of the feature.

I noticed you did the same thing in the Undead thread. You may want to give Movie Talk a try.

Like you citing your opinion in the Sky Captain release thread? As for Undead, how about the other 11 people in that thread dropping their opinion of the movie? Or discussing Haute Tension, or CD-Wow's shipping times? Where is your "who cares" for them? I feel rather special that Gerry P is my own personal posting monitor, and that I've managed to coax a multi-sylabic responce from him.

Now this IS getting to be threadcrapping, and I apologize. Gerry P, please keep monitoring my posts during your abundant free time. But instead, send them to an admin and let them deal with my amok, out-of-control comments.

Yes, but I liked Sky Captain and will be buying the disc. See the difference?

Did my "who cares" response hurt that much? Click here.
