Thin Red Line
Does anybody know if the current version that is being sold has the DTS track on it? I found on one web site that says it does then on another it does not. Any ideas?
|
I *think* the two choices are DTS, or Melanesian songs... I bought the WWII box set with the DTS version, and traded it in to get the Melanesian songs version.
|
Yes, I own the Fox War Classic edition, which has DTS and Dolby 5.1 surround. Great movie by the way.
|
Yeah, the only one I've seen in the stores recently is the DTS version, labled as the Fox War Classics. I don't know if the other one exists anymore.
|
The Melanesian songs one is long OOP. I traded mine in to Digital Eyes. They may still have it if someone is looking for it. I had it and then bought the WWII box on sale at Costco.

Thanks!

And, yes it is the full-bitrate DTS track.

Looks like there's going to be a reissue of the WW2 Box Set, DvdSoon has it coming out in a week but with only 4 discs. Probably got rid of the 2 Disc Patton and updated the Thin Red Line version to the Fox War Classics version.
|
sorry but iam waitin' for the 5-hours DVD edition which iam sure will be released next year -wink-

Probably got rid of the 2 Disc Patton and updated the Thin Red Line version to the Fox War Classics version. I returned the original version of Tora! Tora! Tora! since we already had the SE, and stupidly, I also returned my original copy of the Thin Red Line, since I got ~$27 in store credit for it, and I thought I would pick up the DTS for ~12 bucks later on. Then I decided I wanted the Melanesian songs instead of DTS, and finally found a copy for $10 at Best Buy. |

Malick is one of those filmmakers who doesn't like the revisit his movies after they've been released. Once he's done with a movie, he's done with it.
|
I would rather have the 9 hour 1st cut which everyone walked out off the screenings!
with the stars which were all hacked to death! back in the film! |

You never know! one day! but hey 3 hours will have to do for now, and what a stunning 3 hours they are!
|
Dumb question I know, but what is Melanesian songs?
|
From Wikipedia:
The term (Melanesia) is used today by the nations of Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia... Thus, Melanesian songs would be songs from that region (where the movie took place.) :D The original Thin Red Line disc has 11 audio-only songs choosable from the menu. |
Nice. Too bad no longer on there. :(
Thanks! |
If you really love the Melanesian songs so much, just go ahead and buy the album...it's gorgeous.

Me again with this. So does the WWII collection have The Thin Red Line with DTS?
|
Seems to me that the best course of action here would be to get the DTS version of the film and pick up the soundtrack separately. You're more likely to listen to the music in that format anyway. Incidentally, I really enjoyed the film AND the songs.
That said, I seem to remember that the songs on the DVD differed somewhat from the songs available on the soundtrack. I could be mistaken, however. If Malick has another film coming out soon (seems unbelievable given the interval between Days of Heaven and TTRL), then it's conceivable that the studio would look at a SE reissue of TTRL (and Days of Heaven, for that matter), regardless of whether Malick wanted to be involved or not. |
Sorry I meant the WWII Box Set Collection with Patton, Tora! Tora! Tora!, and the other ones.
