The regular contains the theatrical version only and the EE contains extended cut only. A LOTR fan would keep both

Two pretty much different films because of the added footage. Keep both.

If you are just a casual fan, keep the version you like the most...If you (like me and a LOT others here) are a DVD freak and a completist, youŽll want to keep both

Also, although the extras on the theatrical versions aren't that in-depth or anything, they are exclusive to those DVDs.

I believe that the trailers are only present on the theatrical DVDs as well.

Ask yourself... if you wanted to watch the films again, which DVD would you grab? For me, only the Extended Editions, so i never bothered to pick up the theatricals of Two Towers or Return of the King.

Same here, especially with the dramatic loss in quality from 1 to 2 to 3. Return of the King was really bad in comparison to Fellowship of the Ring.

I gave the TE's to my son-in-law but kept the second discs and made covers for them.

Exactly what fumanstan said. If you will watc the theatrical cuts or the extras on them repeatedly, then keep them. If not, then get rid of them.

I got the TE of FOTR as a gift and gave it to a friend after watching the EE as I had no desire to see the TE ever again and never rewatch extras. I just rented the TE's of TTT and ROTK to check out the extras and waited to buy the EE's.

It's foolish to keep the theatrical editions. You'll never watch them. The EEs are superior in all regards. The only reason the theatricals exist is because the public can only sit still for only so long.

The talk keeping both because you are a fan is rediculous!

Get rid of them if you can!

I bought the 2 disk sets when they 1st hit the stores and enjoy the movies for about 6 months. Then, when the EE DVD are released, I buy them and enjoy them for another month or so.

I am keeping both DVD sets, if one of my best friends want to borrow one of the LOTR DVDs, I lend the 2 disk set and keep my EE DVDs. Also, if some comes over and wants to watch the movie for the 1st time, but does not want to stay all night, then we watch the 2 DVD set.

Both sets have different extras, which is another reason I keep both.

Exactly, Some people just want to see the theatrical edition like my wife's aunt's and uncle's, and it just makes it easier than loaning out the EE. Only people I trust get the EE. Movie lovers geeks and freaks...People who will take care of them.
