Any reviews of this floating around? I just saw the back cover and it says "New 16:9 widescreen transfer from HD". That seems to go against what Romero has always said about the aspect ratio of the film.
I was tempted to get it and compare for myself, but I'd prefer to read a decent review/comparison online first.
(FYI, it also lists new 5.1 track, new commentary, photo gallery, "Making Martin: A Recounting", TV spots, and trailer.)

Making Martin is short and sweet, not too technical but get the main theme and stories out there. I loved the trailer. From what I heard, this new transfer blows away the Anchor Bay one, plus it has a new com track. I'll be checking this out tonight or tomorrow.
BB had a couple for $10.99

If this film is shown in matted widescreen. It will look terrible!
Since the majority of the film is filmed really up close and cramped with giant heads taking over much of the screen. That if you matte it at all. You will be chopping off huge chunks of peoples faces.
Also you will be missing out on the few gore effects in the film. Romero mentions the 'stick' through the chest sequence being a good example, that was completely chopped off by the mattes in theaters.

Here is what the AnchorBay dvd looks like in 1:33 and when cropped to 1:85. I tried saving many other great examples which showed the severity of the cropping. But a few of those didn't save in the file for some reason. So when I have time,I may attempt it again. Yet just look at this shot, even if they attemped to 'tilt & scan' to get as much information as possible into the screen. There would still be huge chunks of either charecter missing from the shot.

wow that sucks. I think I will pass on this and hold onto my Anchor Bay copy.
