I really enjoyed it. Signs is his only work I haven't seen (though I have it...need to just get around to watching it).
I thought Unbreakable was spectacular and it remains my favorite.
I plan on getting this for sure and I'm anxious to see the full specs. I agree with the previous poster's remarks on the cinematography and pacing. Superb.
M. Night & Wes Anderson are two individuals for which I have a lot of respect. The write, direct, & produce all their works and haven't had a flop (in my opinion) yet.

Will this strategy work for my film? It's the #1 zombie college comedy in Illinois this week!

Signs was my fav, I also liked 6th sense and unbreakable (apart from the ending, why did he have to put the text up explaining what happened afterwards!!!)
The Village was poor, it would have made a decent Twilight Zone episode but for a movie it didnt have enough content.

I will probably get this, but looks to be another keepcase release under the now meaningless Vista Series banner, a la Signs. That cover art is interesting but too abstract and I will be mighty surprised if they don't replace it.

I agree about the Vista Series comment. They were doing a really good job with the older Vista Series DVD's, always having DTS and good extras. Then they put out a single disc Signs, with no DTS, and I don't think they've done Vista Series since.
I'm not sure if I'll buy this one or not. I liked it in the theater, but I'm not sure it holds up after repeat viewing.

ONLY 5 more days!
I'll be purchasing this the second it comes out. As far as the #1 worldwide thriller tagline, I too don't like it. However, it's not like the comment is without merit. The film was #1 in the US, though only for one week, and it remained #1 overseas for SEVERAL weeks.

I loved the movie. If people wouldn't go in expecting to get their socks blown off by every movie, they might actually appreciate the moive and forget about the damned 'twist ending'. Its Star Wars syndrome - no movie that is that hyped up will ever live up to it. Upon my reflection, I still love the direction, the acting, the concept, and the music. Beautifully shot and very much thought provoking. This is probably why so many people disliked it. Oh well, they said the same about Unbreakable...

This movie blew. I love M Night's other films, but this one just completely ruined itself. Maybe it's deep, but I'd like someone to explain what exactly this movie is trying to say. In the end, the movie is exactly where it started and seems to make no real comment on the morality of the situation. The entire third act is cheap, acting like a horror suspense film while just before the movie told you there's no reason to be afraid. If the film had been poorly acted and poorly directed, it probably wouldn't bother me. but the filmmaking pedigree in terms of visuals and performance and music is top notch. M Night is brilliant behind hte camera, but he was weighed down by a bad idea and a poor script. The movie should've just let the monsters be monsters, because what happens in the film just doesn't mean anything. We, the audience find out what the situation is, but no one else does, and we have to sit through some rather ridiculous plot contrivances to get to that point.
Anyway, I'll rent it again. I thought the first hour was good until the reveal in the shack. A complete reedit of the last half hour could make this film better, but I doubt he'll do that.

Yeah, this was a VERY good film.
It'd be nice to see a Shyamalan commentary one of these days, sadly he seems to avoid doing them. I believe Senor Spielbergo also doesn't do commentaries, or does he?

I can't believe that some people actually liked this one, but whatever floats your boat I guess.
For me though, it was the worst film of the year, if not the worst film of all time out of all mainstream releases. I've never felt as strongly against a film, as I do towards this one.

Speaking of Wide Awake, a few weeks ago Amazon had a listing for a SPECIAL EDITION of it coming out the same day as The Village. I even wrote down the ASIN. Now it's gone, no sign of it. I know I wasn't imagining it... but... was I imagining it? (I mean, anyone know anything?)

Yeah, I liked Wide Awake too. Many people bash Night for being a "one-trick pony," well, clearly they haven't viewed Wide Awake yet.
I haven't heard anything about a SE release of WA.
