I don't think Judge does commentaries. He was the only major cast member of "King of the Hill" who didn't do the in-character commentaries on the first two seasons, and "Beavis and Butt-Head" doesn't have commentaries either.

I don't really care about a commentary, but the absence of the animated shorts is a bigger disappointment to me.

Fincher Fan 10-22-05 12:20 AM

I'll probably pick it up since I don't already have it but I'm disappointed that after all this time, Fox still couldn't do a great release for it.

Cameron 10-22-05 12:25 AM

does anyone still have the article from entertainment weekly where judge spouts off about office space, and how fox didn't want to pay up for any of his services, or back catalog of cartoons

Well, I for one will be glad for the anamorphic transfer, but I think the studios blew it on this release and Big Lebowski as far as features go. Pretty much a waste.

my $5 was part of that $11 mil. ironically though, when i saw it in the theater, i didn't like it. i felt that all of the funny parts were in the trailer so i was disappointed. only on dvd did i see it for the greatness is really is.

No shit. If you read it again and apply some basic maths, you'll see he said he saw it almost ten years ago when the film only came out theatrically in '99.

GameGenie 10-22-05 10:32 AM

The dvdtalk review is pretty good, im still buying it.

TomOpus 10-22-05 10:34 AM

I never had the first release so might as well grab the new one.

Actually, Bill Hunt said:

The previous DVD release was in non-anamorphic letterbox widescreen and full frame only - a crime that's needed solving for years now.

The review was changed. I originally read the "full frame only" statement first myself.

Agreed. It only said full frame when I read it as well. I'm sure he got a few emails and updated his comments.

I've held off on the original release for years waiting for this one. It's not as special as it should have been, but it's an obvious purchase for me. Glad it's finally coming out!

Ah. Then I stand corrected. Wasn't aware of the change. My apologies.

I got a chance to meet Mike Judge today. While hanging out with him after his panel, he mentioned another future rerelease of Office Space. He said something to the effect of, "Fox lost the original prints of the movie, so there were a lot of deleted scenes that we couldn't find to include on this release. If they ever find those prints, there will definitely be another release of the film on DVD. This one, I didn't really have that much of a hand in, but I'll have a bit more to do with the next release." This whole conversation, which he was having with somebody else, was about a handful of scenes that feature a friend of the guy conversing with Judge (he played a security guard, escorting the layed-off workers from the office). When the guy mentioned his friend, and that his scenes were cut, Judge responded, "oh, those aren't on this release either. There will be a third release sometime down the road, though." This caught my attention, and the conversation that followed included Judge's mention of Fox misplacing the original prints, and not being able to include all of the deleted scenes on this release, and so forth...

Not sure what that's worth to you, as Judge even said that he has no clue when the next release will come. Just thought I'd pass it along.

That's cool. Thanks for the info.

MasterCXtreme 10-23-05 11:52 AM

Very interesting... sounds like a ways away though. I'll still pick up the new ediition now, should only be about $12-13.

Yes, I know all of that. But wil the extras BE actual items or just 'visual downloads'? We've heard so many conflicting reports.

Comfort Eagle 10-23-05 05:01 PM

Im still all over this as I dont have the first dvd, so I may as well get it with the extras, even if they arent that great.

Great news! Sounds like they got enough questions to clarify exactly what's in the box. But I still wonder if it's the full-size Swingline Model 747 that appears in the film. That alone would make it a terrific deal!

Hopefully it's this one, which at least resembles the full-size model somewhat...

Sells for about $3.00 retail.

Best Buy now indicates that the "visual downloads" are on both editions. That tells me the stapler, mouse pad, coffee mug, etc, are actual items. As others are now concluding also, I see. :)
