List of Unrated/Rated releases?

Is there a good source somewhere where I can get a list of movies like "Swimming Pool" or "Sex And Lucia" which have had rated and unrated releases?

I'm sick of renting an R-rated version of a movie that I later find also had an unrated release.

Thanks.

Not really, you mostly have to either keep up with release announcements,or check dvd retailers which usually stock both versions of a film.

Personally I would prefer for every rated release to have 'Edited R Rated Version' or something on the packaging..especially the cover. At least people would then know that their are two releases and this one is edited.

Blockbuster won't carry any unrated releases, expect for whatever is popular..and they are usually the gimmick unrated releases like American Pie sequels and stuff.

The 'real' unrated versions,as in films that were edited to avoid an NC-17 such as Swiming Pool and Sex & Lucia are usually stocked R rated only at BB.

Hollywood Video meanwhile has stopped carrying unrated new releases altogether,so I avoid renting there as well!

One thing you could do,is voice your complaint to the store and or contact their corporate office. If enough people complain and they see their is money to be made with unrated releases. They may change their BS policies.

It may not do any good, since they may not listen and use the usual 'family values' excuse. But stand firm,be direct..and make them aware they are just loosing your money in the process if they keep this up.

I don't know what other unrated releases are planned upcoming expect for Dawn of the Dead 2004 at the end of October.

Young Adam is either out on dvd already or about to be released. That was released NC-17 theatrically like The Dreamers. So a censored R version will be made for dvd(I am sure) for Blockbuster and other stores. A good complaint in this case,is that they are not allowing you to rent the verison shown theatrically!

Hollywood Video is where I'm renting from now. I joined a program where I can have 3 movies out at a time for $9.99 for the first 3 months. New releases are not intially included, so I'm catching up on a lot of back-catalogue viewing. The problem is that I've forgotten which ones of these older movies have had multiple releases. I knew to avoid "The Dreamers" but screwed up on "Sex And Lucia" and "Audition". Luckily Netflix, which I also rent from, still carries unrated versions of these movies. Sadly, however, Netflix doesn't seem to have a way to browse movies by ratings, so determining if a movie is unrated or NC-17 is pretty hit and miss.

Well in the case of Hollywood,I would complain and inquire about the lack of unrated/NC-17 films of the many that are available.

Since I thought they were a great video store at first, they stocked just about everything unrated or NC-17. But slowly with each new unrated/NC-17 release, they started carrying the cut version only.

If that is not worse enough, they have even started replacing older unrated versions with the censored version! You can still find the ocasional old unrated release on VHS if you look. But dvd,nope..unless of course the film is unrated only.

For example I have seen the Dead Alive dvd at most Hollywood Videos, while they only have the R version(avoid at all costs..unwatchable!) on VHS!

I recall being able to rent the NC-17 theatrical version of Bad Lieutenent there with no problem. Then that was soon replaced with the cut R rated version!

Meanwhile they have flat out refused to carry Irreversible which is unrated only. So sadly even unrated only films are not getting into the store, expect maybe with a rare exception once in awhile.

You can pretty much forget renting any Taikashi Miike film at Hollywood or BB...as they will be the censored versions. It sucks,so I think if enough people voiced their displeasure with their policy, they may change possibly.

..and when Dawn of the Dead '04 is released and they have the R version only for rental. Complain, complain complain

Might as well cause a stir, and bring up the many many films that they are carrying censored only.

The BBV in my town is usually much better in carrying unrated versions compared to Hollywood Video. For example, BBV had Taking Lives Unrated and The Girl Next Door Unrated while Hollywood only had the R version.

Like the person who said it before, the best way is to either keep up with release announcements or to browse through a store.
