Layer change problems on A NEW HOPE...

Everybody post make and model numbers of DVD players you are having trouble with.

Sony dvp-nc655p
Sony dvp-s530d
Cyberhome ch-dvd 300

The problem specifically occurs 58:00 to 102:00. Or when Leia and Tarkin and the blowing up of alderran to Ben and Luke with the blaster shield on the Falcon.

Not at all detectable because of the 8MB buffer to eliminate layer change pause.

To clarify, the layer change on ANH occurs at time code 1:03:09, at the beginning of chapter 28. The scene transition is from Tarkin ordering the termination of Leia to a shot of the Falcon in hyperspace, just as they are about to reach the remains of Alderaan. A slight pause at this point is normal, and does not constitute a glitch or malfunction.

It sounds like some people may be experiencing a problem during the chapter just before the layer change. Chapter 27 begins at 59:12, just after the destruction of Alderaan, when Obi-Wan senses a great disturbance in the force.

I have played the disc in my standalone player (Panasonic CP-72 changer), and in my DVD-ROM drive (Sony DRU-510A, with PowerDVD player), and both played fine through all of the area surrounding the layer change.

I'm pretty sure this is not a layer change as I believe the layer change occurs at the start of Chapter 28 when the Falcon comes out of hyperdrive

according to Digital Bits
layer switch at 63:08 at the start of chapter 28

I believe I am using the Sony dvp-s530d model and the skip first started in chapter 27 when Han enters the saber training sequence. The first time it happened it restarted the movie from the beginning. Checking it out after by starting at chapter 27 I have had some skipping at times and no skipping at other times.

I wonder if it even does any good to try and exchange this disc since the problem doesn't seem issolated to my disc.

No problems here either.

DVD-Rom: Sony DRU-700A with PowerDVD
Standalone: Sony DVP NS325

Played from Chapter 26-32 without a hitch. Also, musick is right about the layer change.

I concur the layer change is at the beginning of Ch.28.

I had no problems except noticing the layer change.

I have a 3 year old Pioneer DV-434 and although the layer change right before the Falcon hyperdrive sequence did seem to hick-up a bit more than normal, but it got through it and no further problems for the rest of the movie.

However, when I went to play my Empire disc, I hit the "up" button during the WARNING screen, and as it was supposed to play the animated Star Wars: Episode V intro flash thing, my player just stopped, ie. the display read-out read "Stop" and then "DVD. Hit the Play button and the movie started playing. Hit the Menu button and it went to the Bespin menu, but was showing digital break-up. Ejected the disc, looked it over, reinserted it, it loaded and it ran through normal boot-up and it chose the Bespin start menu again. Must've just got a bad seat in the disc tray the first time.

mine quit playing and froze up in that same area, on two different players. my pioneer dv-c302 froze up and it froze up on my playstation 2. I promptly took the discs back and exchanged them for a new set. the new discs all played flawlessly..

Anybody know how to contact Fox? I'm on my third set already and it still hiccups in the same spot.

This really is a player problem 95% of the time. Sorry.

My Denon 2900 is also perfect, no pause of any kind.

All 3 films were pause-free on my Denon 2200 which, like the 2900, has 8 megabytes of memory buffer. Why all players don't have this is seriously beyond me. I really want to know how much extra it would cost to include this on a player.
