Coupling: Season 4 coming January 25th

From TVShowsOnDVD.com:
TVShowsOnDVD has learned that BBC Video and distributor Warner Home Video will release Coupling - The Complete 4th Season on DVD in a 2-disc set early next year. January 25th is the specific date for the latest run of shows, which sees a significant development in the Susan-and-Steve relationship. Plus there's a new chap called Oliver, who's eye is on Jane. But one of the friends has moved on, with no plans to return. Find out what happens, all in the newest season of Coupling! Price will be $24.98 SRP, and we'll have cover art for you just as soon as we can.
That's pretty quick, since it just aired here in May and June. Can't wait!

I was going to buy it anyway, but the lower SRP just seals the deal even more.

Best comedy on television, even w/o Jeff.

I bought Season 1 blind, and it's one of my best blind buys ever.

I'm surprised they're putting this on 2 discs, since it's only 6 half-hour episodes. Season 1 had 6 eps, and it was on a single disc. Hopefully, that means there will be lots of extra features. And as others have said, gotta love the reduced SRP.

Great news on both the lower MSRP and early release date (I was just hoping they'd release it by April 2005.)

And yes, I'm one of those people who didn't think the show would be nearly as good without Jeff...and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Season 4.

Same here. I'm looking forward to seeing how the show fairs without Jeff.

Not nearly as many tears on the eyes laughs without Jeff, but still far better than most of the tripe on US TV. It also gave Patrick (who I consider very underrated) and Sally room to grow.

When asked to describe "Coupling." I reply: It's sort of like "Friends," except funny.

Series 5 should be interesting (assuming the rumors are true). I only hope it doesn't succumb to the classic "jump the shark" symptom from the end of the last series.

Personally, I think they maybe should end the show now, rather than have it go downhill (which it inevitably will). It is a good time to end it:
Spoiler:
Steve and Susan have their kid, Patrick and Sally are together, and Oliver and Jane are sort-of together, and they have kinda resolved the Jane/Steve relationship.
If it does continue, I hope for more focus on Patrick/Susan. Oh, and I hope Jeff comes back, too!

One of my favourite sitcoms ever. I've bought the first three series blind based on watching two episodes of S1 when I was in London a few years ago. Can't wait until January 25th!

You might want to be using spoilers in your posts as some may not have seen it yet. Also, according to the writer, BBC has requested a 5th season. As soon as he finishes the episodes of the new Dr. Who series he is writing, he'll being writing the 5th season of Coupling.

Spoiler tags would be helpful since I started reading the post before I realized it was filled with spoilers.

just saw this entire season (that's why you get a region free player, folks), and while it's a HUGE letdown compared to the other seasons, if you're a coupling fan it's a must watch

I'm watching s4 right now as BBCA replays it. That one episode with everybody on the phone ranks near the top in humor IMO.

I've seen the first 2 seasons of Coupling, and love the series.

Anyone know why each season is so short? With only about 6 episodes?

This is a very typical length of run for BBC series since at least the 80s (6-10 episodes for a season). It's what they chose to do. I've read before that part of it has to do with smaller, more concentrated creative writing and production teams doing the series, therefore you cannot get the voluminous output of a US series, but the quality tends to stay more consistently high, or at least that's the theory. Imagine Steven Moffat trying to write 22 30 minute episodes every six months virtually by himself.

It's also what makes BBC series' ideal for DVD for us fans here in the US.

I agree with UKingdom, I didn't think season 4 of Coupling was very good, but it had some good moments. Just don't expect it to be as funny as season 3, because its nowhere near that good. I also noticed when this is pointed out on the BBC forum, Steven Moffat gets tired hearing it. I think he really is upset that the actor who plays Jeff left and since no one is saying why he left, i imagine the split was not amicable.

So UKingdom, did Moffat address Richard Coyle's departure in any commentary? Particularly at any points where Jeff's character is mentioned during episodes?

The below link will take you to Moffat's post at the BBC America discussion group where he breaks the news about Coyle's leaving the show:
