Maybe it's too early to tell yet as obviously nobody has the DVD in hand to review. Just wondering outloud as whether or not this warrants a repurchase for me.

Ive read the comparisons of the different versions, but how is the transfer for this version compared to regular American DVD releases?

Im just curious. I have a 61in DLP tv and was curious about the pq.

I will post my thoughts when I get the disk and watch it.

From all that I have heard, this movie rocks. Looking forward to seeing it!

I waited for about two years so I could *have a chance* to see it in movie theater first. Glad I waited. I'm going to buy the R1 dvd.

Korean Ultimate LE vs Hero LE box set screencaps. The Korean LE is identical to the R3HK Edko release (which I also have) for picture quality. I haven't done any A-B on the sound quality of these, so can't comment on it being equal there as well, but would think so.
As for the sound quality of the R2J vs the R3HK, there have been tests by sites actually comparing them stating that the R2J is better. Most comments I've seen about the R3HK being superior have been from people taking it for granted because of the full bitrate.

Eh. Should have either been just Jet Li on the cover or a group shot.

It'd be nice if they included the name of the director on the cover... ya know, since he actually directed the film.

If space is an issue, I can think of one name to remove from the cover.

But they did...everyone knows that Quentin Tarantino shot this film right after Kill Bill

Probably not the best forum to ask this - but does anyone know if there is a hi-def transfer of this film? One that is likely to make it to HD pay-per-view or one of the regular HD premium channels? (please not HBO and their stupid crop to 1.77)...

It was released on EVD (China) a while back. Not sure about the transfer.

Wow! Is it available from an online merchant like yesasia or the like? That would be enough to get me started experimenting with EVD.

Just got my Japanese Gift Box the other day, after seeing the box set here I had to go to Amazon.co.jp and buy it. It's limited edition, so they are sold out, but they have them for sale through resellers. I don't know if you would be as fortunate as I was, but the person who sold me the set I received is one of those people who stocks up on sets like this and shipped me a brand new unopened one. Can always tell if they have been opened, the shrinkwrap is not done professionally, there are fingerprints on the box, hairs under the shrinkwrap and so on (my experience with e-bay UNOPENED DVD's).

Set me back $105.66. I am in Japan, so shipping was nominal. Truly amazing set. Watched it last night and the movie is awesome! Now will have to watch the extras!

The thread with the EVDS details is buried somewhere in the int'l forum.

I also forgot to mention that there are no english subs for the EVD version of Hero.

Here is the cover for the Region 1 release of Hero

The image of Zhang Ziyi face is horrible. Is that really her? Who designed the cover, a 5 year old learning photoshop?

Very poor job Miramax especially since the other region releases features some excellent covers.

It is a terrible cover, but also similar to the US theatrical poster...

I don't like Miramax move of removing Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung and Donnie Yen from the cover but I can see that they are trying to capitalize the movie with Jet Li and Zhang Ziyi, who are more familiar to Western audiences then the previously mentioned trio.

The Japan box set is just awesome, but I'm very happy with aforementioned R0 disc.
