yup, it's a cult classic for sure... reminds me sort of highlander in it's cultishness. it's certainly not for everyone, and it's cheesy... but, i really enjoyed it.

No it hasnt been out for 3 years, it was shelved by idiot company who owned it! and then ages later brought out with no advertising and no push to get anyone to see it at all, basically they wanted it to flop and it did, big!
and yes its a Classic, a excellent Classic!

Sure did, for about a week before it dropped off the planet. I caught it opening night.

What ranking did it have the first week?

i really don't see whats so special about this film. i'm not trying to pick fights or anything...i'm just curious why you ("you" meaning anyone who is a fan of the movie) think so highly of it. my roommate and i watched it after hearing a rave review from our friend. my roommate bought it and didn't even finish watching it. the only reason i watched the entire thing was to see how it ended. the entire second half of the movie i kept thinking to myself "is this damn movie over yet?" i found it to be a very cheesy and flawed film.

As for it's Boxoffice ranking upon release, it barely registered. I don't recall specifically, but doubt it was even listed among the top ten that week.

fair enough. but i still don't think its been out long enough to be considered a "cult" film. not that this matters at all to the discussion...i just think the term "cult film" is thrown around so loosely that it could apply to ANY movie with a marginal fanbase.

I am happy to own both of these movies and will definately be watching E more than many of my other movies. I still watch WOTG every once in a while.
No, I do not think E is a classic, but definately an overlooked sci fi gem. It is a smart thriller that draws from other genres.
I know many people who didn't see it in the theaters (like me), but after watching it on video or DVD said that they liked it.

My roomate was an extra on the prequel they are filming now for a direct-to-video release. Perhaps a SE will be timed to coincide with that.
BTW, how cool would it be if they called it Prequilibrium.

Is there a name/info on it yet though. I thought it was an enjoyable movie and I'm curious as to what they are going to do w/ the prequel. Explore the development of the society or "gunkata" or ???

No, it had no working title when he worked on it. They did claim that Christian Bale was involved but I won't believe it till I see it. From what he said, it didn't even sound like the company making it had their shit together. Wish I knew more.

Has anyone EVER seen a direct-to-video movie that didn't suck?

two of the problems i had with the flick was A. the amount of time that passed between the point the viewer is introduced to the gunplay skills (opening of the movie) to the point where its explained to the viewer. if i remember correctly a fair amount of time passed...while i was thinking to myself "why is he moving like that?" and "how many rounds does this damn gun hold?" its not until later on in the movie that its explained that there is a reason for the movement patterns and there is a method to reloading. i think if that was more seemlessly explained the movie would be better for it. and B. i thought the ending sequence was one of the better parts of the movie except for the way in which it...um...ends. the scene was very entertaining until the very end...i just think they could have presented it a bit more believable.
