looks cool...

For the lazy

September 01, 2004 - Warner Home Video has announced it will release the Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection, a 14-disc giftset with 12 of his films and three documentaries, two of which have not been released on DVD yet, on October 19. The set will come in two digipaks holding seven discs each and sell for $129.92.

Films in the Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection are from a number of studios. Working out this deal must have been a work of art in and of itself. The set will contain:

Salvador: Special Edition

Platoon: Special Edition

Wall Street

Talk Radio

Born on the Fourth of July

The Doors

JFK Special Edition Director's Cut

Heaven and Earth

Natural Born Killers

Nixon

U-Turn

Any Given Sunday Special Edition Director's Cut

Disc 13 will contain the documentary Oliver Stone's America,, an in-depth look at Stone's movie legacy with clips, interviews with Stone and behind-the-scenes footage. It will also include one of Stone's student films, Last Year in Viet Nam.

Disc 14 will have two documentaries making their DVD debut, 2003's Persona Non Grata and 2004's Looking for Fidel. Not surprisingly, there will also be a documentary on Stone's upcoming film Alexander, due in November, called On the Set of Alexander.

I really wish they would clear up about the number of discs in the set. IT DOESN"T ADD UP!

A question for the owners of the previous set.... was Nixon the 2 discer?

No Director's Cut on Natural Born Killers? Please tell me it's the DC before I get really pissed that another re-release box comes out with older versions of the film and not the newer ones.

The Nixon in the previous box was the 2 disc director's cut of the film, not the one disc theatrical cut.

There's really no reason for the boxed set to include the DC of NBK.

Aside from Warners being skittish about unrated material, they already own the theatrical cut, so they probably don't see any point in licensing it back from Trimark.

Yeah, it would be nice if it were included, but from Warner's point of view, they already own the rights to one version of the movie.

A double digipak? Why not just one digipak that stretches from here to Shanghai?

I really don't bash anyone ever on the forums but HUH?!?! No reason to have the dc? What are you on? Why would anyone not want the DC of any movie over the theatrical?

Although I would like to have the Director's Cut included, I can see from Josh's standpoint that it is extremely unlikely.

It doesn't even seem that they will include all of the other discs at that.

Yeah - I'd like more info on this title too - since I avoided the last Stone Collection the news of this one has peaked my interest somewhat.

Well , the extra/different footage doesn't always make for a better movie . Case in point - Dances with Wolves .

Wow, it's been a while and still no concrete info on this? Are 2-discers losing the second disc or what? And are the non-anamorphic transfers fixed?

Interesting that Amazon has all of it for only $89.00 or so. I wonder if some B&Ms can compete with that?

October 19th will definitely be busy with that, a Monster Legacy (not sure if it will have busts) set, and the Hellboy gift set!

Ugh. This is starting to look like a disaster.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/dvdnews.php?id=6233

Looks like the breakdown will be as follows:

1. Salvador
2. Platoon
3. Wall Street
4. Talk Radio
5. Born on the Fourth of July
6. Doors
7. JFK DC
8. Heaven and Earth
9. Natural Born Killers TC
10. Nixon
11. U-Turn
12. Any Given Sunday DC
13. Oliver Stone's America
14. Looking for Fidel/Persona non Grata, and the Alexander preview

All housed in two flip-out Digipaks (presumably like the Buffy and X-Files sets) housed in a slipcase.

Unless the previously released 2-disc sets are DVD-14 and DVD-18 flippers, it looks like the second discs are being dropped.

Here's a pic, showing a one-sided "Doors" DVD, so it's starting to look like any supplementary discs won't be included.

Damn. For just over 80 bucks with STL this looked like one HELL of a deal. Not so much anymore.

But the "Doors" disc says "Disc 1" on it.

Didn't the initial announcement specify at least one of the two-disc sets? either 'JFK' or 'Any Given Sunday'?

Anyway, none of this matters too much to me, I just want that last disc and the new 'Fourth of July'.
