looks cool...

For the lazy

September 01, 2004 - Warner Home Video has announced it will release the Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection, a 14-disc giftset with 12 of his films and three documentaries, two of which have not been released on DVD yet, on October 19. The set will come in two digipaks holding seven discs each and sell for $129.92.

Films in the Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection are from a number of studios. Working out this deal must have been a work of art in and of itself. The set will contain:

Salvador: Special Edition

Platoon: Special Edition

Wall Street

Talk Radio

Born on the Fourth of July

The Doors

JFK Special Edition Director's Cut

Heaven and Earth

Natural Born Killers

Nixon

U-Turn

Any Given Sunday Special Edition Director's Cut

Disc 13 will contain the documentary Oliver Stone's America,, an in-depth look at Stone's movie legacy with clips, interviews with Stone and behind-the-scenes footage. It will also include one of Stone's student films, Last Year in Viet Nam.

Disc 14 will have two documentaries making their DVD debut, 2003's Persona Non Grata and 2004's Looking for Fidel. Not surprisingly, there will also be a documentary on Stone's upcoming film Alexander, due in November, called On the Set of Alexander.

chowchris13 09-02-04 02:30 PM

wondering if nixon will be anamorphic....i'm pretty sure the single disc thats available is non-anamorphic....

Cameron 09-02-04 02:45 PM

yah and what about all the content on those 2 disc sets like jfk and the doors...

AnonomusBob15 09-02-04 03:07 PM

I really wish they would clear up about the number of discs in the set. IT DOESN"T ADD UP!

A question for the owners of the previous set.... was Nixon the 2 discer?

nova 09-02-04 03:12 PM

No Director's Cut on Natural Born Killers? Please tell me it's the DC before I get really pissed that another re-release box comes out with older versions of the film and not the newer ones.

The Nixon in the previous box was the 2 disc director's cut of the film, not the one disc theatrical cut.

i'm sure more info will be out in the next few weeks...

There's really no reason for the boxed set to include the DC of NBK.

Aside from Warners being skittish about unrated material, they already own the theatrical cut, so they probably don't see any point in licensing it back from Trimark.

Yeah, it would be nice if it were included, but from Warner's point of view, they already own the rights to one version of the movie.

trigun 09-02-04 09:42 PM

A double digipak? Why not just one digipak that stretches from here to Shanghai?

I really don't bash anyone ever on the forums but HUH?!?! No reason to have the dc? What are you on? Why would anyone not want the DC of any movie over the theatrical?

:)

AnonomusBob15 09-03-04 12:28 AM

Although I would like to have the Director's Cut included, I can see from Josh's standpoint that it is extremely unlikely.

It doesn't even seem that they will include all of the other discs at that.

chrismcg 09-03-04 02:08 AM

Yeah - I'd like more info on this title too - since I avoided the last Stone Collection the news of this one has peaked my interest somewhat.

Well , the extra/different footage doesn't always make for a better movie . Case in point - Dances with Wolves .

Cameron 09-09-04 12:22 AM

any news on where the extra content from those 2-dicers are going

mikewendt 09-09-04 10:23 AM

I got the original 11 disc box, and bought Platoon & Salvador seperatly... Great set.

chowchris13 09-19-04 10:42 PM

any more info on this set?

jmj713 09-29-04 07:02 PM

Wow, it's been a while and still no concrete info on this? Are 2-discers losing the second disc or what? And are the non-anamorphic transfers fixed?

Dr. DVD 09-29-04 08:40 PM

Interesting that Amazon has all of it for only $89.00 or so. I wonder if some B&Ms can compete with that?

October 19th will definitely be busy with that, a Monster Legacy (not sure if it will have busts) set, and the Hellboy gift set!

ruk 09-29-04 09:06 PM

no website gives any information comparing this new set from his last, what about all those 2 disc editions, has the extra's been taken off

Same here. I won't be picking this one up.

Josh-da-man 10-01-04 01:17 AM

Ugh. This is starting to look like a disaster.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/dvdnews.php?id=6233

Looks like the breakdown will be as follows:

1. Salvador
2. Platoon
3. Wall Street
4. Talk Radio
5. Born on the Fourth of July
6. Doors
7. JFK DC
8. Heaven and Earth
9. Natural Born Killers TC
10. Nixon
11. U-Turn
12. Any Given Sunday DC
13. Oliver Stone's America
14. Looking for Fidel/Persona non Grata, and the Alexander preview

All housed in two flip-out Digipaks (presumably like the Buffy and X-Files sets) housed in a slipcase.

Unless the previously released 2-disc sets are DVD-14 and DVD-18 flippers, it looks like the second discs are being dropped. :(

Here's a pic, showing a one-sided "Doors" DVD, so it's starting to look like any supplementary discs won't be included.

chowchris13 10-01-04 03:18 AM

Can't they get this box-set right :(

jmj713 10-01-04 08:56 AM

Damn. For just over 80 bucks with STL this looked like one HELL of a deal. Not so much anymore.

But the "Doors" disc says "Disc 1" on it.

Didn't the initial announcement specify at least one of the two-disc sets? either 'JFK' or 'Any Given Sunday'?

Anyway, none of this matters too much to me, I just want that last disc and the new 'Fourth of July'.

Dr. DVD 10-01-04 09:40 AM

Will the Nixon included be the DC?

I think doors didn't really offer much in terms of extras. I just hope it keeps the commentary.

Did Stone ever record anything for Talk Radio or U-Turn? I heard he never did.

45 minutes in deleted scenes and a 40 minute doc weren't enough for you?

Not yet, no.

ruk 10-01-04 11:21 AM

does anyone know what is deleted from this set as compared from the last set

The last set had a two-disc 'Nixon' (director's cut; it hasn't been said which cut this will include). I believe it also had a two-disc 'The Doors' (in a snapper, though) and the previous two-disc 'JFK'.

chowchris13 10-01-04 07:07 PM

i want an anamorphic nixon

Cameron 10-04-04 03:18 PM

again what about the extras

ThatGuamGuy 10-04-04 03:25 PM

Please phrase questions in the form of a question.

What do you want to know? Since you clearly know there has been no official word yet, and that the speculation is that the one-discs will be exactly the same while any two-disc ['The Doors', 'JFK', 'Any Given Sunday', and 'Nixon'] will only be the first disc. There's no word yet on whether 'Nixon' and 'The Doors' will be anamorphic. But these things are all in the thread which you must've read, so what is it you're actually asking?

Cameron 10-04-04 03:32 PM

i guess you didn't read the thread or you would know that i had already asked a question..and i do not know "clearly" that there has been no official word. If you don't have an answer then don't be an ass

Dr. DVD 10-04-04 04:34 PM

Hey Cameron, kind of off topic, but are there any decent paying jobs available in Nashville? My current line of work is getting to me, and I loved Nashville when I briefly lived there before.

But that question was answered. You asked about the second discs, and they aren't there.

..and i do not know "clearly" that there has been no official word.
Okay, fair enough. Show me where there has been.

If you don't have an answer then don't be an ass
Jeez, get a sense of humor, dude. I made a little joke at the front and then answered your question exactly. But, to repeat it again, what are you asking if not what I answered (which had all been said before)?

I'll tell you right now, they're not going to cram the extras onto the single discs of 'JFK', 'Nixon', or 'Any Given Sunday', since those movies are all around three hours.

ruk 10-05-04 11:44 AM

i was thinking about getting this set, now i am not so sure, is it better to get his previous 10 disc set than this one???

ThatGuamGuy 10-05-04 12:36 PM

Really, the best way to get them is individually.

the 10-movie (15-disc) didn't come with 'Salvador' or 'Platoon'. It came with an inferior 'Born on the Fourth of July' [which is being upgraded and re-released to coincide with this set]. The old set comes with the old version of the 'JFK' special edition, which doesn't include the 'Beyond JFK - A Question of Conspiracy' doc, (but, of course, none of the special features seem to be in the new set).

And neither release comes with the director's cut of 'Natural Born Killers'.

I've bought all the good releases over time [still holding out on 'Talk Radio' and 'U-Turn', because those have no commentary tracks], so the only thing I want out of this new box is Disc 14, with the two docs Stone shot for HBO last year.

Dr. DVD 10-10-04 08:13 PM

Is Heaven and Earth available seperately as a SE?

scrimshaw 10-11-04 02:58 AM

Is Heaven and Earth available seperately as a SE?
Yes.

Dr. DVD 10-11-04 09:44 PM

Okay. Why are there no reviews yet to confirm or deny our suspicions? I would really like to pick this up as Oliver Stone is one of my favorite directors and I would love to own this, but I need to know if I should get this one large puppy or just get each one seperately (though I would love to have a custom made box.)
