Mallrats DVD

Since Sept. 7 will be coming up soon with the release of Clerks X and Jersey Girl, I noticed that I didn't have Mallrats in my collection. And I knew (up until know) that the DVD was in circulation and I didn't really care to buy it, until now. So I go to bestbuy, circuitcity, and various stores to find out that the Mallrats DVD is out of print and extremely hard to come by. After a quick search on Amazon, I found that the only price they had for it were $40 and above for the used and new prices.

AH!!!!

How did this happen or more importantly WHEN did this happen. So I guess the meat of this post, Where can I still get a copy?

Anyways, thoughts, comments, gladly accepted.

I thought this just had a price drop? Did you check any other e-tailors?

I bit the bullet long ago and paid about $24 or so for my copy.

Is this something that's going to be re-released (Mallrats X?) anytime in the not-to-distant future?

Should I pick up cheap available copies as I see them?

I thought someone mentioned that the reason it went out of print was that universal was trying to put out the Mallrats DVD under their High School Reunion collection or something.

They did release it with that banner, going OOP only a few months later. Either a newer SE (maybe better, maybe worse) or yet another price drop.

Now I know why the one I was selling on eBay went for $31 last night.

I didn't even know it was OOP.

you have a Borders nearby? i saw a Mallrats DVD at the Borders where i live in Santa Rosa, CA a few weeks ago. i figure not a lot of people shop at Borders for DVDs, since their prices are so much higher than everyone elses, which means that a lot of harder to find DVDs never get bought there. they sometimes have some OOP stuff too. i recently spotted some copies of the two disc Star Wars TPM and AOTC DVDs there the other day.

i have found a lot of hard to find stuff at my local Borders. i pay maybe a couple bucks more, but at least i have it in hand when i buy it, rather than having to wait for shipping and all. if you have one nearby, check them out.

Mallrats is OOP. I am having a hard time believing an SE is replacing the CE. The CE is anamorphic, as well as DD 5.1. It also has several commentaries, deleted scenes, and some other stuff. I picked it up today used for $12. I also got Resident Evil Superbit for $12, Nice little haul.

Recently, on his WWWBoard, Kevin Smith mentioned that Universal wanted to do a tenth anniversary DVD release, and he told them he wanted to be involved, on the grounds that they were planning on doing it either way, so he might as well participate, as it could only help the disc to do so.

Now, I have a hard time believing it'll be worth upgrading, since the old disc is so good, but it is coming. Believe it.

If nothing else, I'd assume they'll move the massive amount of deleted scenes to the second disc. Hopefully, they'll include the ABC-edit of it, or at least samples from it, for a laugh. There's also an MTV special they could include (two, if you count "Jay and Silent Bob's Video Stash"; it would be cool if Smith, as a trade-off for this being a release he isn't wholehearted about, made Universal pay for whatever video rights would be holding that up from being released).

I just saw this movie for the first time over the weekend. I thought it was pretty funny. I wish they would have done more with Jay & Silent Bob attempting to take down the stage though.

It's not my favotire Kevin Smith movie, but I liked it better than 'Chasing Amy'.

I don't see him revisiting it. The currect CE DVD is very nice as-is.

I don't see him lying publicly about something so pointless.

Apparently, Universal Home Video discontinued production on "Mallrats" a few months back. Word on the grapevine is that they're planning on re-releasing a new version in '95, for the ten year anniversary. If that's true, I'm certainly not gonna let 'em do it without me; I'd rather be involved so I can insure a good disc.
[I'd assume the "'95" is a typo.]

scroll down a bit

Maybe the "ten" is a typo and Universal is getting to work on this early so it will be correct (insert and all) for the 100th anniversary in 2095.

Here's what I want.. old and new commentary for theatrical cut.

ABC cut with commentary.

"The Stink Palm Effect" doc on a studio screwing with your movie.

3/4 of that special were the J&SB MTV commercials... and they're already on Clerks X

I don't think any newer edition would be worth the bucks

Could be Universal is doing a two movies on one disc job, but what other movie to pair it with?
