Nah, it's closer to a quarter, at most a third (if you don't count regular commercials) ... they only showed six of the MTV commercials/shorts, and several are about a minute long. There's a lot of stuff which was taped in the just-opened Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, along with a few videos (I don't think they were shown entirely, but there was one two-part video which might've been).

Yeah, I didn't mean they should include those, I meant they should include the rest of the special, for all those View Askew completists out there.

"The Stink Palm Effect" doc on a studio screwing with your movie.
Uh, Gramercy really didn't fuck with Smith and gang on Mallrats. With the expception of Jim Jacks telling him and Moiser to remove stuff during the screenwriting process, Gramercy pretty much stayed out of Smith's way during filming. The only thing Gramercy fucked with on Mallrats, was of in the way of promoting.

Kevin said this evening (when he was standing a few feet away from me) that he does know that Universal has taken Mallrats out of circulation. He doesn't know why (he said the DVD has made them quite a bit of cash), but if they are deciding to release 10th anniversary release, that he hopes they'll contact him to get some new extras ready.

Now in the case of Chasing Amy, the Criterion release contains everything. That is unless we'd like all the dailies put on the DVD, so we could all "make our own fucking version of the flick."

There's also an MTV special they could include (two, if you count "Jay and Silent Bob's Video Stash"; it would be cool if Smith, as a trade-off for this being a release he isn't wholehearted about, made Universal pay for whatever video rights would be holding that up from being released).
I'm sure just the Mallrats movie special will be on the DVD (that is if Univeral does re-release it and puts said extra on there), since the Jay and Silent Bob's Video Stash consisted of quite a few music videos that Universal doesn't own nor will want to pay the rights too.

last I heard the disc was going out of print because universal wanted to put the stupid "high school collection" banner on it like they are doing with the fast times dvd.

That was LAST September when Universal put out their John Hughes titles and Three O'Clock High. The newest release of Fast Times will have a "special edition" or "collector's edition" banner.

Kevin Smith reported this weekend (after Friday night when I saw him) that after the great sales of Clerks X, that Universal wants to do a Mallrats X. Let me just say this, I'm game.

My idea for a Mallrats X:

Disc One:
- Original Mallrats DVD with New Transfer

Disc Two:
- Original Rough Cut of Mallrats
- New Audio Commentary
- Additional Deleted Scenes

Disc Three:
- Television Cut of Mallrats
- New Commentary
- New Documentary
- MTV Special

I've seen it just recently here as a 3 pack. Clerks, Amy, and Mallrats.

That's maybe your only solution..

Television cut would be awesome... I love that fact that they got some other guy to dub most of Jason Mews lines.

They're *all* different people. See, I wouldn't want the whole TV cut, I'd just want like a montage or something cut together with all the funny changes.

So, you're saying, the studio didn't fuck with them other than making them cut stuff (a *lot* of stuff, incidentally) and promoting the film badly? What would you consider fucking with? [Note that, in addition to what you said, the studio also imposed a co-editor on the film; it's the only Smith film not edited by just Smith and Mosier.]

[Sidebar] since when can you say "fuck"? [/sidebar]

Kinda makes sense, 'cause he had said they were thinking about it, that they'd want to check out the sales first. But this is weird, to me, that they'd pull it OOP *before* deciding to do a new one. [Though, I guess, if demand required it, they could just put the old one back in print if they needed to.]

I found this at a used dvd shop today. They have new and used titles. Well they had Mallrats for $17.99 sealed?

Wonder if I should buy it?

even though a supposed Mallrats X is coming out?

I wonder if the Foley work is going to be non-existant like it is on the theatrical version on Clerks X.

I'm sure the sound will be remastered (the film was released to theaters with Dolby and DTS), but I don't think they're going to reconstruct the audio to remaster it like they did with Clerks.

If anyone is still looking for the original, NON- "High School Reunion" version, check your local Wal-Mart.

My Wal-Mart had 6-8 of them for $14.44 the other day.

I might have to invest in that. My 10th Anniversary edition pixellates like mad.

I never did buy that version because of reports of that, plus its 2-sided.

I might have to buy the original version 'cause my favorite deleted scene wasn't included - The Alternate Version of Tricia's Tape with Hamilton. There's something about Ben Affleck
Spoiler:
in drag
that gets me every time.
