I have no problem with your idea Green Jello. It's interesting, but not for me. Personally speaking, I wouldn't get into such technical debates with anyone here. If I want to know the in depth technical information about a movie, I go to one of several trusted sites for their reviews. Over the years I've leared to recoginize and become comfortable with several reviewers and can get a good sense of the video or sound quality from their reviews.

If some putz on this site posts something that goes against what my own eyes and ears tell me, then I let it slide. That stuff is too subjective to argue about. And even though I have what I would consider to be a decent setup at home, I'm usually quite happy to just own the movie. As long as it's a decent release. And that I find out from reading reviews.

If you enjoy technical debates, that's cool. I don't. But if we ever get into one, I'd happily supply my HT information if requested. Because I don't think you can debate that kind of stuff without that kind of information.

Why not ask everyone to post their SAT scores? That would be just as relevant as reciever specs in the 'DVD Exchange' forum. Stick to the HT forum, seems much much more appropriate.
UN-F@&#ING BELIEVABLE! Did you bother to ready any of this before you shot your mouth off? I feel that I've been quite clear on my point. I HAVE NO INTEREST IN GETTING INTO AUTO EQUIPMENT DEBATES. I also couldn't care less about what anyone thinks of my system. I also have covered the HT Forum vs. DVD Talk Forum at length. Maybe we should have everyone post their SAT scores. At least that way we could know who has the ability to read the English language.

Thank you for being one of the few in here who actually gets my point.

It would make the pages so long since half of the space would be taken up with peoples signatures. I noticed a lot of people have a link to a list of their equipment, that would seem the best way to go.

This, in it's simplicity, is my point entirely.

I can't believe the amount of people responding to this who still don't get my point.

- I am NOT home theater obsessed.
- This has nothing to do with discussing equipment.
- This has everything to do with discussing DVDs on an intelligent level.

For the third time now. Forget the signature thing. Forget I ever asked.
I think people get your point just fine. It just doesn't help that you seem to be taking a rather condencending attitude in your later posts against those who disagree with you. Like many have already said, its simply a case of DVDTalk being more about light hearted and casual discussions versus technical details. We understand perfectly well that being misled about audio or video quality based on lower end viewing setups is annoying. It just doesn't come up enough for it to warrent your suggestion (that never happened ).

While some people seem to get my point, it's obvious that many still do not. I've been told by numerous people that I'm looking to discuss HT equipment and that I should take it to the HT forum.

Thank you for being one of the people who do understand and can respond with an intelligent post.

I agree with you Green. In fact I originally only had my gear list in my sig over at the Spot. I added it here about 2 years ago after a similar discussion about the the merits of a disc's AV quality i had with someone. I could care less what everyone thinks of the quality level of my hardware and it's not there to brag about it since I'm sure many people own much better gear than me. It's simply there in case you're wondering what I have to base my opinions on when i say that a DVD like POTC has too much EE or that ST:TPM looks like shit because of it also. Then there are people who feel these discs are reference quality and I find they're sitting 12 feet away from a 19" walmart special TV.

So this is not to say my system is better than yours but so we know we're comparing apples to apples.

Oh would you stop the "I'm so miserunderstood" routine. We get your point and a number of valid reasons (unrelated to the obsession with HT) as to why we don't think your suggestion is such a good idea on this particular forum have been repeatedly pointed out to you. You have not only ignored them and the alternatives that were proposed (use a link to your HT, put it in your user profile), but you chose to reply in a condescending manner as in "I thought people here would be interested in other stuff aside from inserts and cover art". It seems to me that the only acceptable solution for you is your solution.

Comment removed for the sake of fairness.

Go back and read through all the posts. Half of the people obviously don't get it. And who says I ignored any of the suggestions? Early on in this thread, I realized the signature idea was flawed for various reasons and I agreed. As for a link to my home theater, I don't have a website nor would I create one devoted to this. Personally I think that alone creates the "pissing contest" arguments that were so often brought up here. I was always up to various solutions on this issue. It was only when I was attacked and accused of showing off my system and wanting to discuss home theater gear, that I started getting frustrated and pissed off. I never said my solution was the only option and it seemed to me that I was being the only "grown up" involved in this conversation.

No, it won't.

Point taken. The discussion certainly got heated and went in all sorts of (unwanted) directions and misunderstandings started flying right and left. Putting all the blame on you for this was unfair. My apologies for the "grow up" comment which was uncalled for.

Apology accepted. I also am sorry for my comments that came off as sarcastic and condescending.
