Anyone else find this annoying ? I found I had to forward past what seemed like minutes of music just to get to the start of the Movie. Also stupidly the next chapter wasnt even the start of the movie so i had to use the old fashioned search button

Why did they do this and also why do dvds of films that have overtures and intermmisions include them ? I seem to recall my patton had an intermission on it.

How many people actually watch/listen to the overture/intermission ?

Hmm, although not anamorphic, my "fixed" disc by Anchor Bay has a chapter stop at the opening credits... allowing you to bypass the entire overture... if you were so inclined.

On the old AB disc the pan and scan side didn't have the overture.


I rest my case.

Considering it's one of John Barry's finest (among many fine works), I think it's shameful to even consider to begin to speculate about the possibility of trying to attempt to skip it.

The music is great, why would you want to skip it?

I also sit through the Superman opening credits just for the music.

But they are opening credits, this is just a title card with music. Granted its great music but I may not want to sit through it every time I watch the film). A Chapter stop to skip it would have been handy.

Since "Dazed" doesn't seem to be in the know, many films used to have Overtures at the beginning...it was used both as a way of getting people ready for the movie that was to follow, and give people time to get out of the lobby and into their seats. Overtures started to go out of vogue in the 60's, although several films in the 70's had them, including Star Trek: The Motion Picture and The Black Hole.

So it's part of the original theatrical version - cutting it out for DVD would offend all us purists out here.

I saw this in theaters, and the overture was there. Believe me, there were a lot of pissed-off kiddies who were expecting the next Star Wars, but instead got a still with music playing behind.

I love the overtures and intermissions on DVDs. To remove them would be sacrilege.

Dont cut it out, but at least put a chapter stop so you can skip it

I wish more movies did this. Hell, I still content that the hidiously long Lord of the Rings would have been better if they had an intermission at mid point.

Oh no, we have to cram as many showings in as we can - audiance members and their asses (and bladders) be damned!

Lawrence of Arabia had both an overture and an intermission that are included on the disc (well, the OOP one anyway).

Another vote for keeping them . . . and bringing back the intermission for longer movies. But then I'd vote for bringing back news segments and serials as well. 8)

Schindler's List had an intermission in the theaters, but I don't recall it being included on the disc.

The argument against them is that they "interrupt the flow of the movie." But then you take LOTR and break it onto two discs, so obviously there is a natural break in the progression (of any movie).

"My Fiar Lady" has this as well. I really don't find it that annoying. As long as they put chapter marks around this section it's really not bad at all as you can just skip it.

I'm not sure if Blackholes chapters are setup in support of this, as I haven't watched my DVD of this in awhile.

What I find more annoying than this are the newer discs that will not let you hit "Menu" on the "New Releases" crap. I find it very annoying when you have to hit fast forward in order to get to the main menu on the disc.

Superman music was great. I found the black hole one to be boring, I'm going to go to the dark side and skip the overture as well.
