Who else buy's partial films in a franchise?

I have heard that some people have to own every film when released in a franchise, i guess what i'm asking is who else like myself just buy the ones that they like, for example...

Lethal Weapon franchise i only own the dvd's for 1 and 3, i didn't care for 2 and 4 totally sucked...

Other franchise dvd's that i own partially...

Jurassic Park - not 2 or 3

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1 and 2 only

Robocop - not 2 or 3

Tremors - not 2 or 3

Darkman - not 2 or 3

From Dusk Till Dawn - not 2

Men In Black - not 2

Starship Troopers - not 2

Blade - not 2

Dumb and Dumber - not dumb and dumberer

American Pie 1 and 2 - not american wedding

Fletch - not fletch lives

Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2 - not 3

Nutty Professor - not the clumps

Crocodile Dundee 1 and 2 - not 3

Home Alone 1 and 2 - not 3 or 4

My Girl - not 2

White Lightning - not gator

Dirty Dancing - not havana nights

Silence Of The Lambs - not hannibal or red dragon

Under Siege - not 2

Gremlins - not 2

Free Willy 1 and 2 - not 3

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 and 2 - not 3

The Santa Clause - not 2

And plenty of disney sequel dvd's that are direct to video or dvd i don't care for either, like beauty and the beast, lion king, pocahantas, hunchback of notre dame, hercules, tarzan, i only have the original dvd movie of these disney classics.

I have Spy Kids 2 & 3D, but not the first one (waiting for the Special Edition that'll probably never come)

I have Blade 2, but not the first one.

I"ve only bought the even numbered Star Trek movies so far (II, IV, VI).

I have only Goldfinger from the Bond movies.

And I have Bad Boys II, but not Bad Boys. But I only have Bad Boys II because someone gave it to me. Left on my own, I wouldn't own either Bad Boys movie.

I have Bad Boys, but no Bad Boys II(waiting for the superbit maybe), but I own all 3 Robocop movies.
I own all 3 American Pies both Dumb and Dumbers but only the first Blade
I own Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I, Dirty Dancing, TCM, Men in Black but none of the sequels to these.

I dont feel the need to own every movie in a franchise unless Im a big fan. Most sequels just end up pissing me off anyway.
However, I don't know about others, but I am more likely to buy a trilogy or sequel if all of the movies come in a nice big shiny box. I think this is just part of being addicted to DVD's although it totally contradicts the first part of my statement.

Most sequels (for MIB, Robocop, Tremors, Starship Troopers, etc.) are absent from my shelves.

The Nightmare On Elms Street franchise skips a few of the dogs in the series.

Actually this is a pretty broad topic (Disney films alone would make this thread ridiculous).

What you should have asked is "Which films do you have from a franchise AND NOT the 1st film(s)?"

That would limit response significantly (and create an interesting thread) since anything that is a hit these days will have a sequel (even if direct to video).

For instance I think Blade 2 is tremendously better than the original and own only Blade 2.

My guess would be that that is what most people do - buy only the films in a series that they like. I know there are a lot of out-of-control completists out there - I, myself, have been known to pick up a few less than stellar DVD's just to complete a series (Jason Goes to Hell, Halloween 6, etc.) - but very few people actually buy every single film in every single series. If they exist, they're probably all in the DVD Talk Hall of Fame, though.

But that is what I mean... any series eventually degrades to a point where the remainder of the franchise just sucks. I'd be more interest to see which films are a popular spring back for the franchise or makes the franchise eventhough it is not the 1st film in it (like Goldeneye revived the Bond franchise).

With a series, either a movie or TV, I'll always start from the beginning. But a lot of times, I'll stop after the first or second one.

FOr the most part, I am a completist, depending on the franchise.

I only have Jaws one and two, only the first Friday the 13th (plan on getting the box set, though) and pretty much only the first of the Disney (except Lion King and Lilo and Stitch).

I consider myself a completist, but there are limits when it comes to certain franchises. For example I will NEVER own Return to Oz, Jaws 4, or Home Alone 4 (bad enough I own Home Alone 3).

It depends on the movies and also if they are included in a box set. For example, I would not buy Rocky 5 individually, but I would get the Rocky gift set.

Some sequels that I do not have or want:

Austin Powers 2 & 3
Batman 3 & 4
Big Top Pee-Wee
some Bond movies
Crow sequels
Highlander 2 & 3
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider 2
Return to Oz
Species 2
Weekend at Bernie's 2
Wild Things 2

I do.

Superman (no sequels)
Ghostbusters (not II)
Rocky IV (none of the others, yet anyway)
Nightmare on Elm St. (no sequels)
American Werewolf in London (not Paris)
The Mummy (not Returns)
Predator (not 2)
Jaws (2,3 but not 4)
Alien and Aliens (not 3 or Resurrection)
Creepshow (not 2)

Probably others I am forgetting but you get the idea.

I only own the even numbered Star Trek Movies, but I was thinking of picking up 1 and 3 (especially since 1 has a new Director's Cut).

Alien, Aliens

The Exorcist, The Exorcist III

Plenty of others really. No "just sequels", however.

Wouldn't pay a rusty penny for:

ALIEN RESURRECTION
BEVERLY HILLS COP III
ROBOCOP 3
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 7 - Infinity

...but I own the rest of each of the above series'.
