I waited it out with the single releases for Reloaded and Revolutions for this box set. Never got around to picking up Revisited and I traded in my (original) Matrix and Animatrix DVDs in at a used DVD/CD store for store credit before the official word got out about this release (i.e. before the flood of people trying to trade in their old discs, therefore making the trade-in credit next to nothing or even the store flat out refusing to take it because they have too many).

Yes I'll take that cookie!

I'll probably pick up the regular version as I'm not too keen on the bust and although the clear plastic shelve thing is cool, it'll be awkard to store it with my other DVDs and it's not worth the extra money just for it.

It wouldn't make any sense to do that. They know that Reloaded had mixed reviews and Revolutions was pretty much universally hated.
While Revolutions was universally hated, Reloaded got positive reviews by most people who saw it. Hell, Reloaded is fuckin' certifed fresh on Rotten Tomatoes! Unless people's opinions have changed, a majority of the critics dug the first sequel.

I loved Reloaded until I saw Revolutions - then it seemed pointless.

I just want to be able to buy a slam-bam-thank-you-ma'am version of the original film.

Speaking of the 'how to control your dvd buying' thread. My friend is a big dvd addict. Not as bad as some, but he just started collecting dvds recently, and has 40 now(90% still not watched!)..and is constantly wanting to buy, more, more, more!

Being a Matrix junkie and already owning the first releases. When I showed him the rumors about this set. He said he would not buy it. How much do you want to bet he will buy it?

This is the guy who bought the theatrical versions of the Lord of the Rings series despite knowing the SE 4 disc releases were months away. So he sold those off and bought the new versions.

I could care less for The Matrix series,so this will be easy to resist.

I agree with the sentiment that the Ultimate Collection should just be the first film.

Saying that...

I think I'll get the 10 disk set.

I've only ever owned The Matrix on DVD, never was interested in the sequels after watching Reloaded in the theater and getting so very disappointed. I did end up seeing Revolutions to find out what they were going to do with the storyline. Watching that pile of crap made me appreciate Reloaded a tiny bit more. I love the idea of having harsh critics do a commentary and that is what pushed me over to the 'want to have' side on this set.

With all that being said, I'm putting it on my X-Mas list so I hopefully won't have to shell out any cash for this thing.

Is it just me, or is the Matrix box kinda dull looking ? They could at least do something a little flashy like the Alien Quadrilogy or something...but then on the other hand...that limited edition is just plain ugly

Maybe it'll look cooler in person... like with the falling matrix code embossed or something

I could be wrong, but I don't think any special features will be carried over from the original releases. The only exception is, I think, the "Matrix Revisited" and "Animatrix" DVDs will contain the exact same content as their previously released counterparts.

Well you do that. And then forever after, people will ask you, "Don't you know about the Ultimate Collection?"

I don't think anyone's ever asked me "don't you know about the Alien Quadrilogy?" But then again I don't hang out with DVD geeks.

Think I'll double dip just to hear the commentaries.

I would much rather have cast/director commentaries, then listen to critics and scholars.

Did you not listen to the cast/crew commentary on the original Matrix DVD? One of the worst commentaries ever recorded.

Funny, the critic commentary is one of the reasons i'm willing to double dip on these movies. Hopefully its not just flat out bashing, versus a more analytical look at why the movie fails or which parts are conveluted.

I agree it was bad, but I was hoping for a new group commentary with all of the main actors.

love all three movies, but will only re-buy part 1 (if released seperately).
the only thing that could change my mind would be if ALL the trailers for the 3 movies were on the set in anamorphic WS & 5.1 sound...

Unless each one of these 106 featurettes are 1 or 2 mins long, in which case it shouldnt take too long at all

I hope there is a play all feature if they are mini featurettes
