Well, it's official...The Ultimate Matrix Collection announced by WB
From thedigitalbits:
Damn, we just can't see to get out of the office today! Warner Bros. has just officially announced their long-awaited, 10-disc The Ultimate Matrix Collection for release on 12/7 (SRP $79.92). The same day, they'll also release The Ultimate Matrix Collection: Limited Edition which includes a Neo mini-bust and a collector's book (SRP $129.92). Here's text from Warner's announcement: "The definitive ten-disc DVD set, The Ultimate Matrix Collection features all three films in the trilogy together for the first time ever with a newly remastered picture and sound for The Matrix. Also included is the companion piece The Matrix Revisited and the best-selling The Animatrix, plus five entirely new DVDs packed solid with brand-new supplemental materials that encompass every aspect of the Matrix universe, including two new audio commentaries on each film, 23 scenes shot for the Enter the Matrix video game, 106 deep-delving featurettes/documentaries and much more! The Ultimate Matrix Collection Limited Edition also includes a limited-edition Neo mini-bust figurine and a 80-page Collector's Book." In addition to what's listed above, The Ultimate Matrix Collection will feature 2 audio commentary tracks for each film (one with philosophers Dr. Cornel West and Ken Wilber, and the other with critics of the film - Todd McCarthy, John Powers and David Thomson), an introduction to the set by the Wachowski Brothers, Easter eggs and much, much, MUCH more. |
Mike, why not post this in the several pages long Matrix Collection thread already existing?

I probably won't double dip, I'm pretty happy with the current releases. Having said that, if I knew a collection set was in the works, I would of held off from buying the current ones :grunt:

In my opinion The Ultimate Matrix Collection should only involve the first movie.

I wish they would release the first seperately, I already have The Animatrix+CD set as well as all the Matrix movies.
Maybe they'll do this: Matrix 1 + new disc of bonus features Matrix 2 + new disc of bonus features Matrix 3 + new disc of bonus features Matrix 2 & 3 are already outstanding DVDs from a technical standpoint, I wouldn't upgrade those. |

Originally posted by fumanstan Your opinion is wrong too :) -wink- I'm of the opinion that I only bought the first movie, and maybe that's enough collection for me. But then again..... |
|
I hate opinions...they're just like a**holes, everybody's got one. :D
|
Even though I have the original snapper Matrix and the two sequal discs, I'm still gonna get this set for all the extra goodies and commentaries.
A note about commentaries...I find that I very seldom listen to commentaries. In fact, out of all the DVDs I have with commentaries, I bet I've only listened to about 10: Both Star Wars Ep. 1 & 2. The Peter Jackson and producer's commentary on FOTR, Tears of the Sun, and several Roughneck comm's. But I find that on films or shows that I'd really like to hear a commentary on, there's none available. The Matrix Trilogy is one that I really want to hear one on. |
This is the exact reason I held off on buying any of the new movies on DVD. There was no way that that was going to be the end all be all of this series.
|
Will not double dip.
Don't want to hear commentaries. Don't care to see new featurettes. I'm going to have to rewatch the first one again but I doubt I'm going to upgrade just for the video remastering. |

I only want The Matrix and not the sequels. Will WB sell them separately? I really hope so.

i held off buying the second and third ones because i knew that this was on the horizon. now, i just wonder if anything in the boxset will explain the quality dropoff after the first one?
|
Are they really going to remaster the sequels?

I'll probably pick the set up but I generally don't enjoy listening to the technical commentaries with the computer SFX guys and the like. The Star Wars commentaries are incredibly boring since they just use audio snippets and edit them together.
|
Do we know if there are any features that won't be included in this set? Do we have to keep our old version AND buy the new set to have everything?
