If I went to someone's house and saw a collection like the OP's, I would just think its an average, not terrible, but not particularly great assortment films (I own about 8 on that list, myself).


Now, if I went to someone's house and saw this collection, I would have a grin on my face and get ready to have a good discussion about film. (but I would wonder, all that Miike and no AUDITION?? )

Your collection is pretty weak man. I mean 'I' own the ENTIRE Criterion Collection. Come back in about 5 yrs. when you catch up.

1. Michael Bay movies suck, as do Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, Halle Berry, and a few others I can't think of off hand.

3. Not all mainstream movies suck but you must own some non-mainstream ones to prove your street-cred.

5. Lord of the Rings is the trilogy of worship here. The movies, the dvds, the man Peter Jackson are untouchable.

Follow those 5 guidelines and you will be fine.

6. Do not cross Joss Whedon or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Doing so will get you a stake with the banner 'troll' embedded firmly in your heart no matter how good your argument.

7. X-Files suxors after season 5. ST:TNG has no character development. Do not try to argue otherwise.

8. The quality of a movie or TV series is directly resposible for the price of said movie or TV show. Just look at X-Files vs. Buffy

Wow, I mean sure the guy didn't have classics but you said all the Lord of the Rings movies, Training Day, X-Men 2, Seven, Traffic and Road To Perdition all suck and then movies like Rush Hour and Freddy Vs Jason don't suck. You must have the most peculiar taste in movies I've ever read on this board.

You need more Steve Guttenberg movies. May I suggest the Police Academy 7ology.

Why don't I get this treatment when it comes to dalvin?

I probably do have strange tastes. While I'll freely admit that Rush Hour was just barely Not Suck compared to other hollywood films, it's very much Suck when compared to Jackies other HK films.

As for Lord of the Rings, yes, I really do think that Freddy v Jason was the superior film. Rings was long, boring and needed some serious editing to cut away the extra fat. FvJ on the other hand, although not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination, was a pretty faithful recreation of an 80's slasher flick - or as close as you can get with todays sensabilities.

Now to be fair - I didnt see Rings 3. However, based on the two snooze-fests that came before, I'm pretty safe in judging a book by it's cover.
