I am so dieing for this release,and yet we still have two more months to go. But from the tease of the photos. I know this version will deliver the goods and is not a ripoff marketing scam in anyway..unlike some other 'unrated' releases.

It appears the best horror film of 2004,has gotten even better than the obviouslly chopped up R rated version.

October can not get here fast enough,dam the wait is killing me! But it will make some fun Halloween viewing,that is for sure.

Wow.....lotsa stuff being added! More nudity and more gore!!! However some of these pics look weird (almost fake). I guess screencaps make it look phony whereas the scenes in action would look good.

Got to see the unrated version and I got to say that is well worth it.

Though that first shot of nudity was in the film originally in the test screening back before it was released. The cuts placed back really bring this out to more gore and slightly more character build up.

Damn....I was stupid to click that link. Now I'll probably breakdown and buy the HK release instead of waiting for the JPN one.

While I would say that's a pretty bold statement, it is definitely one of the best remakes ever and better than most of the shit that passes for a horror movie these days.

My HK dvd shipped friday....it cant get here soon enough! I agree this is one of the best remakes, and on its own is a great horror movie.

I was completely blown away by it and ended up seeing it twice in theaters! A major major surprise in my opinion.

Definitely one of the best studio horror pictures made in years.


I am glad to see the gunshop escape will be actually fleshed out. That was the subject of major debate in the movie forum since it has a huge obvious jump cut that makes no sense in the R version. Most were saying it was just lousy direction & editing trying to make it an 'MTV horror film'. I on the other hand,figured it was cut to avoid an NC-17 since much material was deleted according to the director. So I choise to not fully judge the choppiness of the R version on 'bad direction',unless the unrated version proves to be just as choppy. So it looks like I may have been right all along :D

I think all quetions (well, if not all....most) will be answered with the directors cut - especially from the pics you posted. I can't wait as I had a few questions myself after watching it in the theater.

Just you and a handful of who prefer loud music, poor direction, lousy screenplays, poorly done CGI effects, and non-existent character development.

Those screenshots certainly appear to kick up the gore factor, but they also look consistent with the rest of the poorly done CGI in the film.

I'll download and watch the unrated version to see if the deleted scenes improve it any... I doubt it, because there was so much that needed improvement.

But I think it's great that special attention is going to be given to the DVD.

I agree With Most of that. But i can think of a lot of great horror films with non-existent character development. (see Texas CHainsaw Massacre)

The Dawn Remake was a fun movie, but not even half of what the original film was. It's completely catered to an MTV crowd, with the soundtrack, cheesy dialogue/acting, and direction.

that being said, it's one of the best recent genre films, and i'll be picking up the Uncut version when it arrives..

I don't think you could be more off than you are right now!!

Compared to the real MTV horror films(think Dimension films,yeesh) made since 1996. This film is a definite step in the right direction.

The score rather than being loud and abrasive with obvious jump effects(used only sparingingly in a few sequences),is more subtle and unnerving throughout most of the film.

The music selection,compared to obviouslly attempting to sell a shitty soundtrack(hello Dimension Films!!!) with plenty of songs crammed into the end credits and throughout the film by one hit blunders,which don't fit the film at all,was actually well chosen.

Every song choice used in the film,which was not much,was perfect and fit in with the tone perfectly. The only time alittle bit of obvious studio decision in "Hey toss that song in their for no reason,other than kids think it is cool!" was the Disturbed version of Down With The Sickness used durring the very end of the credits. What would have been perfect,is if the music just died and the rest of the credits played silently.

Yet that one blunder is not bad compared to the onslaught of crappy tunes pumped into the end credits of Scream 2 & 3,Freddy Vs Jason and so forth.

Also the song selections like the use of the awsome Johnny Cash for the opening credits,has pissed some clueless teens off when you look up some forums. They complain why didn't they use techno music,or hard rock,instead of 'grandpa' music for the credits.

So it seems like they were not fully catering to the pathetic mindless MTV crowd in this case,compared to Dimension films and other studios who are just TO obvious in their marketing and so on.

What charecter development that did survive the theatrical cut I thought was effective...and I can only imagine the unrated version enhances it even more. The Matt Frewer portion which is very brief I thought was very effective and sad with the choice of imagery and score used in the sequence. So you didn't need to know him that long,to feel sad for him and his daughter. That is effective direction taking something small and making it larger.

Meanwhile there wasn't any 'lousy direction' in my opinion viewing the film. The only problem I had were some obvious MPAA edits and such,which really did jump out and make you say "Huh?" including the confusing gunshop escape sequence. Yet all that will be redeemed in the unrated version.

All in all one of the more impressive studio horror films made in at least 10 years.

Decent movie but doesn't even begin to compare with the original.
