Studio Ghibli Collection or Disney?

Well, I wan't to buy all of the Ghibli DVD's, but I'm not sure if I should wait for the R1 versions (Disney) or if the Studio Ghibli Collection (R3) versions are any good.

Does anyone have some advice for me?

The Studio Ghibli R3 releases are excellent quality releases, but I'd get the Disney releases of Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Castle in the Sky for the extras. Take a look at DVDCompare.net to compare features and picture quality.

If I didn't have any of the Studio Ghibli releases yet, I'd probably order the Studio Ghibli Limited Edition DVD Collection.

I paid to get all the R2s! more expensive.

But I'm also getting the R1s - english extras etc.

Get the three that are out now, and get the three coming out in November. ESPECIALLY NAUSICAA!

And those you can't wait for, or don't think will ever be R1, get in R3 (or R2)

The best versions to get (R1, R2 or R3) is different for each film (depends on transfer, subtitles vs dubtitles, extras, etc). It's a maddening situation. You really have to do your homework and research if you want the best version of each film.

They're not coming out in November. Nausicaa, Totoro & Porco Rosso will be released in 2005.

I was simply going by DDD (and my order) - they changed the release date from Aug 31 to Nov 1.

Great news! I was disappointed when the original August date was pushed back to '05.

I hope the November date is true. Fingers crossed.

Noooo!
Are Nausicaa, Porco Rosso and My Neoghbor Totoro pushed back to 05!?

Damn, I've been looking forward to the August release for some time now. I'll definitely have to buy the SGC versions now, and maybe buy the Disney versions when they come out.

Thanks for the info guys!

PS
I'm new on this board, and my first impression is very good. Helpfull people and a lot of information regarding future releases.

I guess I'd have to pay a lot of taxes for this DVD set, or do they "work" around it?

The potential duty is dependent upon what country you reside in. Presuming you live in the United States your shipment would not be subject to duty because YesAsia reships to US addresses from its office within the United States.

The LE collection is Region 3, right? So you got to have a region-free player?

Hmm, I live in Europe, so that would be a problem.

I think I'll just buy them separately.

Thanks for the answer, Yakuza!

Here's a Ghibli DVD Comparisons site, which has reviewed most of the Ghibli DVD releases from around the globe, could be helpful:

Thanks for the link!

It looks like the R3 versions are pretty good, so I'll probaby buy
the ones I don't have.

Are you guys sure that the Disney releases of Porco Rosso, Nausicaa and My neghbor Totoro are pushed back?
I've checked some web shops and it seems as if the release date is still 08.31.04.

Well Amazon says "no release date set" and DDD says 11/1, so that's two data points for you.

Crap!

I just ordered the R3 versions because I can't wait for so long. I'll probably buy the Disney ones too for the extra stuff.
