Where's the "I'm buying and I dont really mind the changes" option? |
OK, I'm going to shock you all. I wouldn't buy them if they WERE the original un-altered versions. Quite frankly, that after seeing the '97 SEs, I couldn't go back to the originals. Call it a LOTR-TE to LOTR-EE thing.
I like the revisions of the '97 SEs and wished they had done more. Which hopefully, these '04 versions will be. I personally can't wait to see the Lowry Digital remastering. In fact, this is a "revision" that the '97 SEs sorely lacked. I thought many scenes, especially in ANH, looked faded and washed out. Most of the stuff in the Skywalker moisture farm looked unremastered. The Lowry Digital restoration and revised color-timing is one of the main buying points for me. If they can get these films to look like they were shot today, then I'm all for it. Some of the people say that in some of the "leaked" screencaps are too dark or the color is off. Well...hello...McFly! This is most probably due to the restoration process and new color-timing. As far as the changes that are known about, eg. Hayden replacing Shaw, Greedo shooting, Jabba in ANH...so what? For one thing the ANH Jabba scene was a cut scene to begin with that used a fat man as a stand-in for Jabba, hence the line "Jabba, you're a wonderful human being." The Greedo thing, so what. I mean really... And if its cleaned up and revised enough in these new versions, then any more continued bickering is just sour grapes. Hayden replacing Shaw? Now I admit, that's kind of hard to grasp. However, if it fits in with Ep. III, then good. Also I wished they'd do something about Aunt Beru's 1970's blouse. Talk about taking someone out of the film. Here we have a space opera and there's someone wearing a 1970s big collar blouse. Hope they CG'ed a Tatooine robe in or something. As for buying them, you better believe it. Got them on pre-order from Amazon with STL. |
Star Wars on DVD? Definately count me in. They are still some of my favorite movies of all time. I didn't mind the SE's too much. Jabba definately could use a make over in his confrontation with Han. I am glad to see they are redoing that at least even though the dialogue is word for word what Han and Greedo just discussed. I don't agree with replacing Sebastian Shaw with Hayden though. Whatever. I have to trust that Lucas is getting it out of his system and that we are seeing it the way he intended.

I voted "No, OT only" of course.
A good solid 18-20%, that's higher than I expected here. I think that's pretty solid evidence for me in my disagreement with Terrell in the other thread, that "90% of those on originaltrilogy.com will buy these". If you can't get 90% on a site that's not virulently anti-SE, no way in hell do you get 90% there. I find it sad that over 50% are buying just because it's all there is. Rewarding companies for pumping out crap? That's why we have so many fullscreen only releases. Or edited crap. Or poor quality releases. Folks buy it anyway. I believe it's far more productive to take your money, and support those who are putting out high quality merchandise. Take the cash you would have used to buy a half assed product, and buy something you wouldn't have bought normally, because they did such a good job. Reward excellence. |
I dislike some of the changes (and like some others) and I'll be buying the boxset when it's released. So I guess I'll vote the second option.
I can't wait! |
I'm ususally a purist when it comes to such things, but for some reason I can't muster up the outrage for Star Wars. Maybe Lucas has broken my will, who knows...
I'll be buying, in spite of the annoying changes. |

If you don't like some of the changes (what's that, 30 seconds out of each 2 hour movie?), it doesn't make the whole series to be "crap". Or "poor quality". |

I'd prefer the enhanced versions to only getting the originals. Of course the perfect scenario would be for the discs to included both versions. |
Here is a take on the whole thing. I've seen the original trilogy about 100X. I have both the original and SE on VHS. I think its kinda cool to see something new and different in a movie you have already seen over and over again. (but the internet has ruined any element of surprise.)
Case in point. Whenever I watch Terminater 2, I watch the extended version. Come to think of it, I have never watched the original cut since I purchased the DVD. |

Closing. We have a thread every week on what people buy. And I think we've had plenty of Star Wars threads already.
