Why 2 copies ? It not like its a limited release or anything, im sure there will be some on the shelves in a few months.

And of course being Star Wars, expect a new version to be released at least once a year (probably with even more changes) :)

Although I appreciate cleaning up the print, remastering the sound and "fixing" all of the effects, I do not like the tampering of scenes, changing the tone or plot, either to make things more to his supposed original vision (which seems to change daily) or to fit it in with the prequels (which I haven't enjoyed so far).

And I'm wondering how someone could vote for Option 1 if they haven't seen the "new" special editions. All we have seen are a few screenshots on the 'net, I doubt anybody has seen the changed movie in it's entirety.

Yes, this is Lucas' vision and he has the right to do whatever he wants with the release. He could take a crap in each box set if it felt the urge. However, I wish that he would respect his fans enough to include the original copies of each movie (it would not be difficult), while still including his 'perfected' version.

Lucas is just ruining these films by adding these 5.1ES tracks. I prefer the original mono and stereo tracks on a mini TV speaker.

Lucas can do whatever he wants with this trilogy... as long we will see a Archival Edition later on. That is an un-edited edtion of the original trilogy.

Or else, we fans just have to buy the bootleg versions.

an 'archival' edition would mean the films as complete as George wants them.
the opportunity for the unrevised versions was for a first release-
that would have
1) gotten some release of the films out to shut the fans up
2) gotten the OTVs out to placate the people who weren't enchanted with the SEs
3) given him time to further work out the kinks with, and finalize his 'epic' revised vision
4) followed the same succsessful 'double dip' plan that New Line has had with the LOTR films, and given him the opportunity to maximize his income with this release.

all signs point to never on getting the OTVs now.

and to answer the question posed by this thread- yes i will be picking up the set.
but i will never be watching the films all the way thru again.
just a few scenes here and there.

I am a pretty huge SW fan myself (member of the 501st legion, imperial cog tattoo, blow huge amounts of cash to go to conventions, large collection of memorabilia, etc) but I don't even have TPM or AOTC in my movie collection. I do have a couple of VHS sets of the OT (non-SE, thank you) and my prized Definitive Collection LD set and a DVD rip of it. I probably won't be buying the new set, though I may borrow it.

Just ordered the original versions on dvd from E-bay, and have already stated I will not be getting this new set. Only an official release of the versions I fell in love with in '77, '80, and '83 will somewhat reverse the damage Lucas has subsequently done to his once mighty franchise.

ckolchak, I thougt "Archival" edition meant the Original that has been kept stored away for good? Not the complete as Lucas wants them. That´s the Lucas Edition.

Anyway, I have grown so tired of his BS that I have got ahold of the Original Trilogy in Anamorphic Widescreen on DVD aka The Definitive Edition. Yes, I know they are Bootlegs, but maybe Lucas should take this as a hint to give us the OT as they were meant to be, and stop fooling around with his CGI shit... if he gets my drift.

Going on the assumption that the movie viewing experience on DVD will be better than watching the P&S version on VHS video tapes... yeah, I'll buy it.

it would have been great if Lucas had been able to make a prequel trilogy to the original versions, without needing to make these changes. But, he didn't, so I'm buying the new versions that will make sense when linked to the prequels, and will buy the originals when he finally releases them in whatever format there is by then.

I'm there. The only change in the SE's that I really remember is the ending of RofTJ (I liked the original's cheesy ending), other than that I'm OK with what's coming out.

Let's face it I'm buying it.
Some of the changes I like, some I don't but it's still going in my collection.
