Need DVD languages information.

Being new to the world of DVD's I need some assistance with the whole issue of languages on a DVD movie.

I am interested in movies that have a Portuguese language sound track included so that if I want to I can watch the film/DVD in Portuguese. I have only found one to date.

I am under the assumption that if a secondary language track is included (portuguese, french, etc) it is listed at the back of the DVD case. Is this always the case? Are there films out there that may not list the languages they have included??

Is there a way I can search online for DVD's which a portuguese language soundtrack? I am not iterested in portuguese films, but north american films with the secondary portuguese language sound track (not subtitles).

Thanks in advance
Halder

Assuming you want only Portugese language tracks (not subtitles) and only on R1 discs, then I'm GUESSING that you're limited in choice. However, I went to yahoo.com and typed - +"DVD" "Portugese", found on one site (dvdreviewer.com?) and it said the following 3 flicks have portugese (both language tracks and subtitles): Ghostbusters II, Dr. Strangelove and The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad. Is the one you know of any of these 3?

EDIT: the site is actually http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/review....asp?Index=117 - 25k - Cached

I'm sure though that if you poke around you might find more titles. Or, if portugese language track is a must for you, you might be better off to invest in a region free DVD player, giving you more Regional variety to choose from, as it seems "foreign" releases are more prone to including a variety of language tracks.

Another find: El Mariachi/Desperado double-feature apparently has Portugese 2.0 track.

EDITED TO ADD: Another find...a few Clint Eastwood flicks have portugese language tracks as well: "Pink Cadillac", "White Hunter, Black Heart", "City Heat" and "Honkytonk Man".

Like I said...if you dig around, I'm sure you can find more. Hmmm....if I remember correctly, R3 (or is it R0?) is a "universal" region disc that should play anywhere in the world.

Hi, and welcome to the forums!

Please note that this forum (DVD Reviews) is intended for reviews of particular DVDs - i.e., the "total package." Questions about specific features are better asked in the main DVD Talk Forum. You're likely to get a better response there, anyway, since it's more heavily frequented.

Moving to DVD Talk Forum.

I haven't seen many films with portuguese "audio" tracks. I've seen them with subtitle tracks, which is something at least.

Columbia/Tristar includes 7 subtitles tracks with many of their releases:

English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Thai

Titles such as Kramer vs. Kramer, Remains of the Day, Glory, In the Line of Fire, all carry these 7 subtitle tracks.

The only non-Columbia/Tristar dvd I've seen that has many subtitle options is Kill Bill: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish.

...try "The Middle Of The World" and/or "The Man Of The Year" - two films from Brazil,
both available on Film Movement DVD...
