Holy shit that cover is weak. This movie deserves better.

So has it actually been confirmed that this release will be a longer version of the film with more footage?

Digitalbits.com has the new cover art work. I personally think they fucked up, the original looked a lot better.

Who cares about the fucking artwork. I'm glad that the movie is getting what will hopefully be a proper release.

Heat is awesome.

To those who already own Heat on DVD why not just replace the new artwork with the old? Anyway I hope the extras are worth the wait...

Because it is an opinion. And because the movie is "awsome" gives even more reason for folks to be justified when they bitch about lame artwork.

Wow, that is bad stuff. Though I will still buy it. Hopefully they change it or revise it before release.

That's because the one out right now is a snapper case.

I have been using the search feature and this is about the only Heat thread I could find. Anyways, I have the orginal release of this movie and I am looking for somebody who also had the original and has seen the SE to tell me what is the better transfer. I am assuming the original was Anamorhpic, but I am not 100% sure.

I wouldn't mind dumping my current version and picking up the SE.

Thanks,

I don't remember any reviews stating the new transfer was a major improvement over the older release. I never upgraded myself because I didn't see a need to.
This should help:

it's really not much better. i had both on at the same time and even the DTS was pretty weak by DTS standards, better than the Dolby, but weak. don't bother.

I still own the snapper version, and have no need to upgrade, I love this film but I don't watch it that often. Will upgrade only if I can find it cheap used someplace.

Funny this thread is bouncing around today. I've been looking to upgrade my old snapper since seeing that this had come out but have been holding out for when I found it for cheap. Finally found it for $10 still in shrinkwrap (along with the Casino SE) yesterday at a flea market and have been watching it today. I'm not overly impressed with the audio track but it looks very good.

Doesn't it have the same transfer as the first release?

No, but they are awfully close.

I have the R1, the R2 DTS and the laserdisc. The picture quality is pretty close betwen the two DVD's. I find the DTS to be an improvement over the R1 disc, but neither can hold a candle to the laser's DD track . I'd wait for a nice blu-ray disc of this with DD-HD or whatever the new uncompressed audio will be

I myself only like buying a movie so many times, and the 2 disc on the whole is adequate- of course, I may change my mind down the road when I see it for cheap in some HD- configuration

I think they are the same transfers, just different compressioning.

Very disappointing Warner dropped the ball on this re-release by not giving it a better transfer as they did with other SEs.

Gotta disagree. To my ears, the DTS track is great! Have I heard better? Yes! Plenty of full bitrate dvds. Would I ever say it is weak, never!
