I don't know if this is any assurance that the DVDs are not completly finished yet.. but the copyright on the back of the boxes of the last Star Wars VHS releases (after Episode I came out, with the prequel-style logos) says for example, A New Hope: Copyright 1977, 1997, 2000 Lucasfilm. The credits in the movie itself still only say 77 and 97, but then again, nothing was changed to the movie from 97 to 2000. I'm betting that the final version's end credits will read Copyright 1977, 1997, 2004 Lucasfilm.

I was watching my VHS Empire Strikes Back Special Edition yesterday and I noticed Obi-Wan mentioned something about being trained by Yoda. Though in Episode I, it seems Qui-Gon trained him. So who was it that trained Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi? Was it Yoda, Qui-Gon, or both?
Another thing, did R2-D2 and Yoda ever meet in the PT? Also in ESB, it seems they haven't. I'm assuming sometime in Episode III that C-3PO at least gets his memory erased, since he doesn't call Darth Vader dad, or even mention Anakin made him or anything like that. Or it could just be he has a bad memory. I think in ANH, he says something like, "We've never been to Tatooine before R2. Or have we?" For all we know R2 could be talking about his PT adventures the whole time in the OT, we just can't understand him. He's beeping things like, hey Leia, I was on your mom's ship and I fixed the tracking system or whatever the heck it was. |

Shouldn't make much difference, though, since droids are probably pretty common and there are possibly thousands of R2-D2s rolling around. 3. No reason that C-3PO should know that Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader were one and the same. As far as we know, it ISN'T common knowledge that Anakin became Vader outside of a few "in the know" like Ben, Yoda, and Palpatine. Otherwise, someone could've put two and two together about Luke and Vader. "Luke Skywalker? I'll be damned, Darth Vader was once a Jedi named Anakin Skywalker. Wonder if you two are related?" |

The main character, if you go by the belief that the story is told from the Droid's point of view. Wiping their memorys would be in short giving them a lobotomy. That doesnt fit with the black/white movie style that Lucas is following. Two - who's to say 3P0 doesnt know how to shut up. There's pleanty of evidence that supports him telling lies when nessassary. (He knows who the princess is, and yet clams no knowlege when he sees the holograph, "I'm not very good at telling stories" and yet can keep the ewoks enraptured, and so on). 3P0 is a protocol droid - meaning that he is normal attached to a diplomat, somone with lots of state secrets. It would stand to reason that he knows how to keep his mouth shut when nessassary. R2, on the other hand exhibits the best case for non-memory wiping. His devoition to Ben is way above the call of duty for just delivering a message. Also, he gets very excited and start chirping away when he first sees the old man. There's nobody around to translate, but he goes nuts anway. |
Don't forget that both 3-PO and R2 claimed to have been the property of "master" (Wedge) Antilles in ANH. I'm wondering how they're going to fit that one in in ROTS.

This is what happens when you make a movie, and extend it to a trilogy when it becomes an incredible smash. Turning it into episode 4 halfway through makes it even more difficult to keep continuity, not to mention actually making 1 through 3 twenty years later.
Even the whole Luke/father thing in ESB is handled clumsily. Ben's explanation of the way he described Vader killing Luke's father simply doesn't gel, it's always come off as forced. It's always been an obvious "Hey, what if Vader was Luke's father!?" decision during the writing of ESB. This is why I understand that Lucas wants to try and "fix" all these problems and make a cohesive whole, but it simply can't be done. There are just far too many inconsistencies, and fixing one creates another somewhere else... |
I guess when we see episode 3, we will se some serious patch work.

Antilles and Skywalker are apparently the equivalent of Smith and Jones in English-speaking areas. Common last names.

What about Bail? I guess that's a common first name in the Star Wars Universe? I just watched Episode I again the other day and when Palpatine was nominated for senate, Padme asks who else was nominated. One of them was Bail Antillies of Alderan. I wonder if that's who owned the droids previously and I wonder if he hangs out with Leia's adoptive father Bail Organa at the "Guys With The First Name Of Bail Club" or something like that...

Originally posted by Ruderic They said "Captain Antilles" which is a different character than Wedge. Someone was casted to play Captain Antilles in episode 3. |

Originally posted by StarFyre I am just pissed that Greedo f*%king shoots first still!!! Sanjay Geez, get over it already. This complaint has been going on for what, over 7 years now? It's time we move on, don't you think? Besides, in the '04 versions, this is supposed to be fixed to some degree. |

Originally posted by Mike Lowrey Oh, that's right. Sorry. Well, I guess I always assumed that Captain Antilles was Wedge. DOH! http://www.thejawa.com/customs/refer.../antilles3.JPG And yes, Bail is a title. |

He was supposed to be a rouge! A pirate! A Scoundrel! It's bad enough that they *ussied him out in ROTJ. Han shot first in cold blood! Just like James Bond did in Dr. No before they *ussied him out too! Just like the cops had guns in E.T. before they replaced them with radios....What was GL reason for changing the scene anyway? |

Furthermore, that one scene does not, IMO, change Han as much as people proclaim it to: Han still is the sgallywag rouge of the series and the tough talking ladies man Jaba dashing scoundrel I came to enjoy and emulate many times playing Star Wars with my brother. So now he fires in self defense and proves quicker on the draw and aim...like a space Eastwood. He doesn't just murder Greedo and, you know what, honestly, I like the character better for it but, I admit, when I was 8 I didn't really care one way or the other because the blaster shot pretty colors and made that sound there. Anyway, this thread isn't to discuss the endless Han and Greedo debate so I leave you to it feeling I shouldn't have opened my mouth but the blaster shot pretty colors and made that sound there. |

In fact, the way I looked at the scene revision was that at least Han was still a better shot (from the hip) than Greedo, who was playing Bounty Hunter at the time. I never viewed that scene as, "Oh my God! GL ruined Han's character!" Just like James Bond did in Dr. No before they *ussied him out too! Just like the cops had guns in E.T. before they replaced them with radios. Isn't Political Correctness wonderful? What was GL reason for changing the scene anyway? |
