Yeah more like a condensed version. About 45 minutes on Star Wars and 15 each for Empire and Jedi is what I heard.

Because he is the son of Peter Jackson and Clint Howard?

SPOILER BELOW!

From the London Free Press:
On the feature-length commentary for the film, Lucas tries to explain why Christensen appears as the younger Anakin, without actually mentioning the actor's name or detailing how it was done (face replacement is now a simple process in the age of digital computer effects).

"As we get to the end of the movie, as he joins the force, he is able to retain his original identity," Lucas says of Christensen's character.

And the character's "original identity" is not as Darth Vadar, Lucas says, "but it was his identity as he was -- when he died as Anakin Skywalker."

Ain't THAT a bit of revisionist history?

I think Ep3 will explain the nature of the ghosts -- so all this will make sense a year from now.

My setiments exactly. Until we see Ep. III, this Hayden ghost thing won't make full sense. However, for those that say "revisionism", you're right also. Because this story thread wasn't thought of until Ep. III, which makes the whole theory revisionist. But so what? In the end, all six movies should flow fairly well, and that, I believe is the ultimate goal of George Lucas.

Let's make fun of that hairy guy some more.

Reminds me of the fake 9/11 picture of a guy on the tower with the plane heading his way from the back. He then got photoshop'ed in a number of amusing pictures :)

Nice review and screenshots of the changes. Sounds like the video and audio are incredible. You gotta give the man props for making sure these movies have the best look possible. I'm drooling all over my desk.

stinkeye 09-09-04 01:04 PM

Lucas will be on the Charlie Rose show tonight if anyone is interested.

Fok 09-09-04 02:07 PM

I read the article on the home page of DVD talk. I was disapointed about the deleted scenes. Surely they could of put a few in. I guess we'll have to wait for the next format until we can see them.

Well then wouldn't his return to the "Light Side" of the Force mark his rebirth? Therefore wouldn't he then his astral self be a projection of the man who WAS to become (in other words the 'older' Anakin Skywalker)?

I think the issue most have is that they feel he should have made the prequels flow with the originals, rather than having to tweak the originals to flow with the prequels.

I don't really care either way, as the changes don't bother me much, and many I actually like.

That's what I figure. Frankly, the younger ghost really undermines Anakin's sacrifice at the end of ROTJ. I was always under the impression that Luke was right and that there was still good left in Anakin, and that the good side of him was able to defeat the Emperor and save his son.

So the good Anakin didn't die in Episode III as Lucas claims. He died in ROTJ in the company of his son.

Ex-actly. And, although none of us are exactly sure what Episode III will explain, you have to go through some pretty hefty (and largely unexplained onscreen) mental gymnastics to accept Hayden as the "final" Anakin.

It is really unfortunate that Lucas will work really hard, string 6 films together, and have one of the next-to-final images make audiences go "Huh? WTF? That doesn't make sense..."

I know what you're saying, but the FANBOYS will still love it and "understand from a certain point of view" crap.

Anyway, the changes aren't that bad, the only really crappy one is the ending edit with Anakin. Everything else looks ok, I guess....

GuessWho 09-09-04 05:30 PM

While there may have been good left in Anakin as an old man, the fact is he was tainted. The Hayden-era was the last time he was "pure"
