Just wanted to confirm that Luke's scream in Empire is gone. :D

Twiggystar 09-06-04 03:18 AM

I think is Harry Knowles....

Anyways here's his review, If you can call that a review blah he's so bitter even though, he owns every format that SW has ever been released, and is still bitching about the SE. *rolleyes*

What was 2 great films and a flawed, but triumphant 3rd have been transformed by their Dr Moreau into amalgamated monstrosities filled with “Where’s Waldos” and visual whiz-bangs that were and are entirely unnecessary. Lucas’ vain struggle to find perfection has resulted in refining his diamond to dust. I love this series dearly, but his continual meddling is not resulting in “better” films or finer “art”. Instead, they represent change for changes’ sake and what is lost is the context and time in which they were conceived and made. That being said, I recommend buying this simply for “Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy” though even that is transformed by its conclusion into a corporate infomercial regarding the corporate structure of LucasArts, which is rather sad. However, that documentary’s look at the original Star Wars film is priceless. I’m still hoping for Irvin Kershner to fight for his right to a Director’s Cut and release his original vision for HIS movie. “Weeza Free” indeed…

Harry should be ignored. Not only does he have zero credibility, he changes his opinion as often as the wind blows. He doesn't have the guts to stick to one position, and defend that position. Case in point.

That coming from the same fool who originally praised the changes made to the '97 SEs. I don't care what your opinion is, but get one and stick to it. Be willing to defend your opinion when questioned.

$1000 Buy it Now.... LOL, idiots. Wait a few days people.

jough 09-06-04 01:39 PM

It's only $26 now.

In any case, the box looks hell of flimsy.

But... INSERTS! And as expected, original key art on the discs themselves. And standard keepcases, also as announced!

I wish the box was sturdy like the Indy set (or hell, the previous Star Wars VHS sets), but whatever.

Mike Lowrey 09-06-04 01:46 PM

Anybody check the shipping price on that eBay listing?

$20   Although it is Postal Service Express Mail, but still... He could ship UPS and it'd still arrive well before street date.

Who the hell is going to be stupid enough to buy this at anything more than that $26 current bid?

Oh shit, just realized...the auction doesn't even end till the 15th!!!

What a joke! So you might get it weekend before street...so what?

Cartload 09-06-04 01:49 PM

The box for the set does look flimsy, but the artwork on those inserts looks awesome. The bonus materials insert looks like the cover of the novelization of the first movie.

jough 09-06-04 01:53 PM

Not to be on-topic or anything, but has anyone seen tv commercials or magazine ads for the Star Wars DVDs yet?

Their release is only two weeks away now, yet I haven't seen ANYTHING in the media about them.

Maybe they're waiting for new big shows to premier or something?

Joshua Clinard 09-06-04 06:47 PM

Or maybe they are waiting for the 8th of September, when the press embargo is lifted, so that they can get extra exposure.

Yeah, looks like the Alien Quad box. I was hoping for an Indy or LOTR: EE case.

Get Me Coffee 09-06-04 07:12 PM

Didn't I see this guy in Harry Potter?

Mike Lowrey 09-06-04 07:50 PM

$46 current bid on eBay + $20 shipping. Shiiii, I'll jump on that, so I can get it the Friday before release.

Stoooooopid!!!!!!

I think that display is refering to the 4th dvd which contains the bonus features.

milo bloom 09-06-04 08:26 PM

I'm sure that's referring to the fourth disc already in the package.

I think the only one known so far is Best Buy's R2D2 Beneath the Dome mock-umentary.

sureAV421 09-06-04 08:37 PM

wasn't that on one of the PT dvd's? i swear i've seen it before.

Get Me Coffee 09-06-04 08:40 PM

It was release before. It's pretty darn funny. Good Star Wars humor!

There was an excerpt on the Episode II disc. And the whole thing was released separately as well (for around $10 bucks at Best Buy/Suncoast/etc.)

USA Today has a story and discusses the changes:
http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/...ars-main_x.htm

The Demon 09-08-04 01:07 PM

They CG'd Vader's face when Luke takes the mask off and they replaced the real Anakin with Hayden as the spirit at the end of Jedi.

Wonder what else he butchered?

So where did that picture in the article come from, the pan and scan version?
If Lucas wants his definitive versions of the films to be the only ones, why is he ok with pan and scanning them? How is that his ultimate vision?

Shannon Nutt 09-08-04 02:17 PM

For those that haven't heard the "Empire of Dreams" documentary that is on the bonus disc is going to air on A&E this Sunday Night.

Newspapers can crop photos however they want to, but you make a valid point.
