I have a pretty small collection and no one has heard of most of the films or I get comments like "Citizen Kane isn't that supposed to be like the best film ever?" Yeah, it is bothering as it seems. I don't even like anyone getting near my DVDs let alone touch them. One of the worst things about college was when my roommate kept watching DVD's I owned when I wasn't there. Still bothers me. An electric shock device for DVD's sounds good.

I have a decent collection, but hide it from visitors. Don't want them borrowing them.

Big haired blonds with BIG breast are the one most impressed with my DVD collection, and I didn't say I had a massive collection.

after I help pick their jaw up off the floor...I usually hear comments on how obscure some of the horror is...or how nasty the nunsploitation looks...or the same stupid question, "why so many?''

only a select few are invited into the vault, which most of the time are only the ones that the dogs allow to pass through the door.

Most of my collection is in Sorice cabinets behind black glass doors. I have family type DVDs in the guest bedroom on an open bookshelf for friend's kids to watch when they come over. Sometimes I get a comment on the amount in there. Most people have no idea I have >1400. Occasionally someone will ask what's in the Sorice cabinets, they are very narrow in depth so a few people figure out it's some kind of media storage.

Most people either don't notice or don't care.

I have probably a little over 200, and I don't think anyone has ever commented on it to me either way.

My TV room is in the attic, and most people who get that far into my house (we have a BIG house) know me well enough to expect that I'd have a lot of DVDs. Of course, I only have about 250 or so, which isn't a lot for the people who post here...

Most of my collection is of movies a lot of people have never heard of, so the reactions vary. I suspect a lot of people would assume I bought a whole bunch of DVDs really cheap somewhere at a yard sale or something. I mean, who are these guys like Bresson, Ozu, Antonioni, etc.?

you're the perfect example of quality over quantity.

I know I have a ton, but I like to think theres a little quality in there, too.

I always get the phase "do you realize you could have bought a house already if you did buy those?" Or why would you want all those movies? or the you have way to many dvds.

I have around 95 DVD's which is a lot smaller of a collection than most on here. But, when guests see my collection, they seem to be shocked at how many DVD's I have.

I guess most people I know must not ever buy movies.

A friend of mine at work who knows about my collection, but hasn't seen it, is always trying to name movies I don't own whenever I see him. He's always amazed when he lists off some obscure (to him) title, and I'm like "yup, got it."

Usually I just get impressed comments, but somtimes there are the stupid questions "Why do you buy so many?" "I didn't know girls collected DVDs!" "Can I borrow a few?" I don't bring up my collection to most people though, so it's not a big deal.

My friends who don't collect DVDs just shake their heads and grin. And if someone criticizes my collection I usually just point out whatever dumb shit they collect. About half of my 325 or so DVDs are foreign or anime or whatever, which I try to recommend to people if they want to watch one of my movies, but they never do...

Luckily, my mom's the only person in my family that really has an interest in watching DVDs, and she never has the desire to borrow any of my movies. It's funny... I got her interested in the hobby and she now has a 58" widescreen TV and 5.1 sound (with an eye to 7.1). And don't get her started on pan and scan.

I don't show anyone my collections anymore.Used to have my collections in front of my home theaters set and they would call me for spending all that money on DVD's.
Well they don't know anything about it and occasionally does happen when a DVD fan seems my collections.Since I am in Japan now, I still amaze the Japanese buddies of mine with my colections.

First I usually hear something like "Wow, you have a lot of DVDs" or "Wow, you must really like movies".

Then, after closer inspection: "Huh? I never even heard of half these movies. You have weird taste."

I have about 40 dvds. I've had a few people say stuff like "wow what are you going to do with all those? Why do you have so many? How do you watch all of them? Who is this Steve Guttenberg guy?"

Whenever I put a DVD on a Christmas or Birthday list my Mom will say something like "Don't you have enough DVDs already?"

I think to myself, if they only knew what went on at DVDTalk.

I only have about 325 DVDs, but people are like so impressed. I hate it more than anything though when people ask to borrow stuff, because whenever I do that, I always get it back with the box damaged or the disc scratched. I'm extremely obsessive compulsive about my dvds, so I hate that. I'll be the guy that when the Star Wars Trilogy comes out, I'll look through every box at best buy for the one that's in the most perfect condition. I'm sure most of you are the same way.

Well, I used to let people borrow stuff, but I decided that if I can pay for them so can they.

Most have not seen it recently hovering around 800. I have been selling several off.

But, the comments I usually got , back when it was around 500, were short and sweet. "jesus" "damn" "oh...sweet..lord"

Oh, and I have one buddy that skips the movies and goes directly to the porn section. He finds it fascinating - for some reason he refuses to buy porn. He has about a 100 DVDs so I will occassionaly let him borrow stuff. I consider him a collector if a more moderate one.

I have another friend that I have completly cut off from borrowing because he thinks borrowing and burning is ok. I however do not - if I did I would not have as many movies as the local rental store.

I keep my DVDs in my home office (toy room). My wife complains about this, but like I say, they're not community property. The few people who've seen my collection (close to 400) usually comment on how many damn movies I have.

I get a lot of "Damn...."

I have enough "recognizable" stuff to not freak people out. But, for those that look closer.... they will find out some really whacked-out stuff.

"Why do you have a movie about a guinea pig??"

"Never heard of Visitor Q... who's in it?"
