So its already September, and still no word of a new Karate Kid DVD being released. I pray that the rep at Columbia Tristar Customer Service was right and that a new dvd should be out sometime in October. I would assume that Columbia Tristar would have announced the dvd by now though. Has anybody heard of an anniversary dvd that has come out after the anniversary?

Someone should call Columbia Tristar and see if they can confirm what my friend and I were told. When you call tell them that you have a defective Karate Kid dvd and need it to be replaced. Hopefuly they will say the same thing that I was told, which is that it should be out in October. The only thing that bothers me is that they might just be talking about the old bare bones Full Frame Crappy version. Has anybody heard of a movie studio making a dvd OOP only to bring it back with the same exact version? I am assuming if they are releasing it again and it is the 20th Anniversary then they would change the release in some way.

If Columbia Tristar does re-release the same exact version of Karate Kid (which has been a very successful franchise for them) on its 20th Anniversary, then they are completely retarded. They have released versions of KK in other parts of the world that kill the version we have in the US. Those foreign versions aren't even anniversary editions or anything, they are just the regular release for their country. Why does Columbia Tristar think that we want film in full screen, with no extras what so ever?

It is now mid October and I have yet to hear anything about the Karate Kid DVD. Its the damb 20th Anniversary of a franchise that has made so much money for Columbia Tristar. They release anniversary editions of such crappy movies all the time, but not for a classic. Is there a possibility that the reps at Columbia Tristar were talking about a re-release of the old bare bone Fullscreen dvd? I don't understand what the hell the reps were talking about. It also boggles my mind that there hasn't been any articles in magazines or anything commenting on the Karate Kids anniversary. Fox did all of this press for Revenge of The Nerds and I am assuming that Karate Kid did much better than Revenge of The Nerds (I Love ROTN!) at the box office.
Any insight or news from anyone?

So they are finally re-releasing an SE DVD of Karate Kid. (Columbia did fumble the whole 20th Anniversary thing since its coming out in 05 instead of 04) Now we need Fox to release a SE DVD of Revenge of the Nerds and I will be as happy as Poindexter watching the Pi Delta Pies.

I was put on hold and then was told that it was out of print (which I already knew). She then said that I could recieve a voucher towards any other Columbia Tristar release, I said that I wanted the movie that I originally bought and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was put on hold and when she came back she said that it would most likely be available in mid fall. I asked if it was an exact re-issue or different dvd with different content and format and she said she didn't know. I hope that she was talking about a completely new dvd with proper ratio and some decent extras.
Knowing Columbia will probably get a completely new transfer and have it released in foolscreen again.

The Karate Kid DVD was actually bought this past summer. Also, I do keep the receipt of every dvd I buy, besides the fact that the DVD is in perfect aesthetic condition but will not play correctly. Because a movie has been out for years and is currently OOP does not mean it is not available still at some retailers. A lot of the more expensive retailers like Virgin Mega Store or HMV tend to have a lot of dvds that are OOP, most likely because of their high price points.
